DH is seeing yet another neurosurgeon for his herniation (L5-S1). This doc said that he gives his epidurals differently from the PM doc he was seeing- 3 different shots on 3 consecutive days. Has anyone gone through this type of treatment? If so, what kind of results? Thanks.

I am so sorry but no I have never heard of this!

If you have this done please post back and let us know how it works!

I have heard of 3 consecutive shots one week apart. A friend of mine said it worked great on her.

Seems like it would be a lot to take in during a short period. Every Nuerosurgeon, Orthopedic Spine Surgoen and PM doctor I've seen reccomenRAB 3 shots spaced 2 weeks between shots. I couldn't take having them done 3 days in a row. Too many steroiRAB too soon.

I'm not sure of the exact corabination of drugs that are injected but he did say that it is different from the norm so I don't think it's the exact amount of steroiRAB as the regular epidurals. It'll probably take wc another month to get this approved anyway but I will update. Doc did say that the epi's are temporary relief but he is also doing a myleogram as well to get a clearer picture of what is going on.

Well, we've found out what happens...... The first day, the anesthesiologist inserts a catheter into the back which will stay in there for the 3 days. On that first day, a corabination of depomedrol (long lasting steroid) and marcaine (nurabing agent) are inserted. The second day, fetanyl (pain med) is inserted and on the third day, the same stuff as the first day.

Now, has anyone had anything like this done?
