Your dad has issues. I think I would stay clear of him, he doesn't sound like he is the type of parent that could guide and care for either you or your sister. Although I don't blame you for defending yourself, it would have shown him more if you had just kept walking away and left. Also, if he had been crazy enough to call the police- likely he would have injuries to show them and you wouldn't have-scary predicament.
 
What you need to think about is what you COULD have done, which is not a hell of a lot. Your father doesn't seem to have a temper that would have allowed you to talk it out, it's obvious from the way he hit you. You tried to walk away, and he wouldn't let you do that either. So in self defense, you did not horribly beat him, but you did the best (least worst?) thing you could have done, and that was to forcibly leave. It was a good decision, and from what it sounds like, it required some quick thinking. I hope that you can resolve your problem, and I think it was good of you to stick up for your sister.
