Anyone have experience with Mayo Clinic Jacksonville?

I've been having severe back pain for several months. I've had xrays, MRI's. The Dr said I have some renal cysts but that wouldn't cause the pain. My chiropractor said they would. I don't want to go to a whole bunch of Drs again. I've been thinking about going to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. Has anyone had any experience with them? Are they good and are they freindly? I hate going to Drs that make me feel stupid when I ask questions. Do they take a long time to get things done? It took me two months to get my MRI resulsts. I took a list of things that were bothering me to my Dr and she told me she didn't have time to look at all those. I dont' know if they are all related to my back or not.

My symptoms are:

back pain in middle and lower back - sometimes pain shoots down into legs

headaches

sweats

sometimes tingling in hands

sometimes feeling like I can't get a good breath

Knawing, cramping pain in back - kidney area

itchy skin

Any help would be greatly apprecieated Thanks

Celia

I went there in '97 for an ankle fusion, they were excellent. I'd recommend Mayo Jax to anyone.

The surgeon was uppity but then that's a surgeon for you.;)

Do they do all of their own Mri's, xrays etc? I already had those and I don't know if my insurance will pay for me to have them done again so soon. That's one of the things I'm not sure about. I don't want to be stuck with a huge bill because the ins. wouldn't pay for the tests.

Wherever you go, it would be up to the doctor. Mayo does have in-house diagnostic services but that doesn't mean the doctor will insist you use them.

Make sure you bring your old films with you and tell the doc you can't afford new scans, they might be able to work something out if the doc thinks your old scans are inadequate. Even a slight change in diagnostic code on the paperwork may "reset" your insurance.

You didn't mention your insurer, I better tell you just in case: I was shocked to learn Mayo Clinic Jax does not accept Medicare Part B (physician services, outpatient physical therapy, x-ray and diagnostic tests) You can still get paid but you'll pay Mayo and then Medicare pays you directly.

Thanks for the info. I have Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. I live in Jacksonville but my husbands work is based in Alabama so he has ins through them.
My chiropractor thinks it's my kidneys - I have some cysts - but my Dr thinks it's in the muscle (she never checked my kidneys). So I'm confused as what kind of Dr I need to see.

This NIH page says simple kidney cysts can cause pain: http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/kudiseases/pubs/cysts/

Maybe you should see a kidney specialist, I think they're called nephrologists.

I'm going to a different hospital in a different city in 2 weeks to see a specialist. You want to take all your medical records with you. All of them. And any x-rays/mris/cts..any films need to be put on CD. If they don't have access to all that stuff they'll test you again.
