...chevy tahoe 4WD w/5.7L? What symptoms does the transfer case exhibit that let you know it was the transfer case that was the problem
 
I've got a different vehicle, a 2000 Blazer, but it has the same problem. The only symptom I knew of just from driving it was that you can hear a slight roar from the front driveshaft turning. I'm not looking forward to crawling around under there to change the motor.
