Anyone got Sleeping Beauty in blu ray?

I just bought it from ebay and am quite excited. Now ill admit i seen this on demonstration instore ages ago and wasnt completely blown away by it but all the sites ive read have raved about the picture quality. Im watching on a 32" set so hopefully it will be more sharper than it would be if it was stretched to a massive screen, i also hope that the huge 2:55:1 aspect ratio doesnt have black bars taking up all the screen as i believe this is the widest ratio you can get on standard film (70mm)

Early copies of Pinnochio Platinum Edition on blu ray are already being sent out and many people have uploaded pictures of their tvs and even direct screencaps from their PCs and it looks AMAZING. I was just wondering if the quality of this would be any good. I did see it on demonstration at HMV when it was released and ill admit.....it wasnt as good as i thought. But at home with my own colour settings im sure it could be just as good. So i managed to get a sealed copy on ebay last night for

IIRC Ben Hur was 2.66:1 as were some other titles.

Unfortunately the superwide ratio does mean that a large amount of the screen is black bars - but the quality makes up for it.

Try the dvd in your Sleeping Beauty Bluray and you will see the WSS is absent.

No problems of either nature for Pinocchio.

I doubt any UK retailers are shipping the Pinocchio Bluray until at least Thursday as they are not allowed to.
Stills likely come from reviewers sent early copies or from US discs

US retailers send out to the UK first chance they get - sometimes 3 weeks before release date but they cant ship early to US customers either.

US Disney Blurays of SB and Pinocchio are region coded

I was just saying id seen people taking photos of it on their tvs, to prove they had the BD and also scans of the discs and booklets and from their pictures it looked amazing. I will be buying the UK Blu ray when it is released i just wanted an idea of what to expect for Sleeping Beauty. Also i dont have a theater system yet, will that take away from the experience?

Wasn't Pinocchio made in 4:3? So, the BluRay is just HD 4:3 or have they cropped it whilst rescanning it for higher resolution?

Also, the boys smoke in this, and drink beer, and one even says "jack-ass". I take it Disney will have the scissors out?

Paddy :D

Pinnochio is in 4:3 but theyve given you a choice of watching it with black bars at either side or else some decorative bars down the side to make it look prettier!

My BD came this morning and im slightly annoyed as it is only a 2 disc version, no 3rd bonus DVD. Also the cover is only a plain cover, even without the slipcase the other ones ive seen have a shiny metallic cover on the actual case itself. Still at

According to the back cover of DVD Review - the Disney ad says there is a dvd included aswell just like there was with SB.

Do you have the UK set?

Yes i have the UK edition, it was still sealed. On the box it only says 2 disc edition. Inside it was just the 2 discs. No third disc and no holder for a 3rd disc. They must have only been doing them for a limited time only. The outer cover is just a plain cover, not the shiny one.

Can i just say this is Sleeping Beauty im talking about. I was only mentioning Pinnochio due to the amazing stills ive seen online not only of the film but of the special features. I dont need the 3rd disc. It was just the idea that i was getting something special. Now it looks and feels just like a standard DVD special edition..........inside a blue box lol.

Sorry I thought you were on about Pinocchio which should have a 3rd disc.

I too have the SB UK editon and it came with a dvd.
However there was no WSS on the dvd and it took quite a few phonecalls and a few weeks to get the disc corrected.

Disney UK said it was a fault with disc one on all the dvd sets too not just the one supplied with the Bluray

I guess they didnt want to repress every dvd so just cancelled the free SB one

That was my point, the review states the 2 discs are for the platinum edition. It also says Disc 3 is the SD DVD. Thats what i was saying, it is a 3 disc set with the first 2 being bluray and the other being DVD. It should be no different in this country. That site is showing details for the bluray-technically there is only 2 discs as bluray discs and DVRAB are not the same thing.

I'll let you know when it gets here but it would be odd to have " 2 disc edition " splashed across the cover then find there are 3 in it

Sleeping Beauty plays it safe and just says "Platinum edition"

The Amazon site says its just 1 disc and the Disney UK site does not even mention the number of discs so there appears to be confusion all round.

But whether there are 2 or 3 discs I think you will find that you will get the same set wherever you buy it - a BD only version is not available

WideScreen Switching

Its the signal on the dvd that tells your tv to automatically stretch the image to 16:9

The WSS signal is also required if you want to watch the dvd on a 4:3 tv in full frame or letterbox.
