When media outlets are going inappropriately crazy over the premiere of this abortion on a plate, some terrestrial channel will probably air the original, so at least we get to see that again.

Oh for heaven's sake. They're making this one now then are they? It does annoy me. There are so many great Japanese films that they remake and they never match them.

What next? Audition USA?
 
It'll probably get an American DVD release once the new version is made. But you already know that the new version will be crappy watered down garbage.
 
Noooooo!! Why can't they just leave great films like BR alone? What's the betting they also ruin it with a typical 'happy' Hollywood ending? :(
 
Is it true they haven't even released the original in America yet? I think it's stupid they're remaking it without giving people a chance to see the (soon-to-be) far superior original. I hate how lately they are westernizing anything they can get their hanRAB on so that they can release a version Americans will understand because they're too stupid to be able to read subtitles :rolleyes:

Can't they come up with original ideas of their own without tainting classics like Battle Royale? Those who haven't seen the original are going to associate Battle Royale as an American production in years to come...
 
It's rumoured that people have wanted to buy the rights to release the flick for years but are worried that 1) The MPAA will enforce a multitude of cuts, and 2) That the Christian right will be up in arms if it's ever released.

However, a hell of a lot of people in the States have imported the DVD. It's quite the cult classic over there. And the truth is that subtitled films do pretty well in the States when they're released. But the Studio's are so out of touch with what audiences want anyway and there's a fear that whoever makes the decision to release the original version, subtitles and all will be sacked if the film underperforms.

I'd be interested to see the talent they get behind this, and I'll keep an open mind. The original film isn't perfect, it still has its flaws. They might fix those flaws or (As with the 'Ring' remake) have exactly the same ones.
 
I have to admit if they re-adapt from the novel instead of just remaking the previous film then, it could turn out worthwhile, especially since the original film left out a lot of material from the novel.

But I don't think it will work as an American film with American actors.
 
I can't believe they're remaking it? It's going to be soooo unbelievably cheesy as an american remake imo. It'll be soo cringey I just imagine it with a bunch of american highschool kiRAB played by crappy actors.

Mind you be interesting to see how they're going to script in parts for :
