Anyone get salmonella?

Hello. This morning while watching TV I saw a short clip saying that there was a recall on peanut products in Canada. It said that many peanut products were contaminated with salmonella.

I live in Victoria BC, Canada and 2 nights ago I got extremley sick. When I returned home from work around 9:30 at night and I was feeling fine... Then around 11 o'clock I started feeling woozy and I threw up pretty badly around 11:30. I threw up about 10 more times and had diarrhea and did not fall a sleep until 5 in the morning.

I pretty much ate what I eat everyday. I had a bowl of cerial in the morning, a sandwich for lunch, and when I got home I had a grilled cheese and some peaches. One exception though, I bought some yogurt covered peanuts at work and ate them around 7:45.

Do you think this is how I got sick? I mean I ate peanuts, which I don't eat a lot and then I saw this commercial talking about peanut recalls?

It's day two for me now and I am feeling a bit better. I haven't thrown up at all since that first night. The diahhrea has calmed down a bit. I still feel weak, but better than yesterday.

I don't have any food allergies if anyone is wondering.

Does anyone have any advice? I'm just drinking a lot of water right now and eating chicken noodle soup.

Hi,
I had salmonella about 5 years ago, I just came home from the hospital, I had a hyserectomy, by son went to graduation party and brought himself and I back a piece of cheese cake (little did I know that it was sitting outsdie in 90 degree temps.), We ate and it yes we got very sick, severe diarrhea and vomiting-allot of stomach pain, we both went to the doctor and was put on medication, I ended up back in the hospital for 2 days becasue the day I ate the cake was the day I came home from the hospital. I had allot of problems after that, I had bloodly diarrhea on and off for almost six months and of coarse they had to do alot of tests that consisted taking a laxative:dizzy:. If you don't improve-go to your doctor.

Hi Karen!

I have improved a lot since I posted. I was down for 3-4 days, but I am feeling much better now. No more headaches, no more diahhrea, and I only vomited a lot that first night it happened.

I started eating solid foods last night... chicken, today I had toast and pasta.

I did not have bloody diarrhea, I don't know if that is a main symptom of salmonella? Mine was extremley watery. I don't want to gross you out by saying that, but this is a "health" forum.

I am not feeling that weak anymore, so a few more days and I should be back to normal. I did not take any medications or anything. I am still curious though if this was attributed to the peanuts.

Thank you for your response.

Apparently the salmonella outbreak was caused from a peanut paste used in cookies and other foods. It was made in Georgia. Peanuts and peanut butter out of a jar was supposedly safe and not affected by the salmonella outbreak. There are many sources of salmonella and many different strains of it. As long as you are feeling better and not suffering anymore adverse effects, I'd not worry. If you are still sick, you probably need to go get a stool culture so your doctor will be able to help pinpoint your source of exposure. Hope you continue to improve!! Be well.
