ZnCl? I am wondering if the more common forms of zinc salts would work on reducing stomach acid as well?

I've had good success using the calcium-magnesium-zinc corabo supplements. I think the most I ever took in one day is 20 pills (10,000 mg of calcium or 10x the RDA). On days when I took too much I would get diarrhea.

You might also want to check out this list of acid and alkaline fooRAB:

You want more bioavailability. This doesn't work the traditional way. The zinc ions actually have to enter your cells. If you do take ZnCl2, then simply eat with it and it'll absorb a lot better. Zinc citrate absorbs regardless, but it really shouldn't make too much of a difference. You'll probably be eating/have eaten anyways right? Give it a shot.

By the way, I don't know what type of zinc salt they used in the Yale study, I haven't read it in detail. I'll try to find a copy and let you know.

Any ionic form of zinc will do, such as zinc chloride or zinc citrate. I've even seen zinc acetate. The chloride salts are generally less bioavailable for uptake of zinc into the cells, which is important in this study. However, both of the above forms will work just fine. I think citrate is the most bioavailable.

There is one more thing to keep in mind. If your acid reflux isn't caused by overproduction of stomach acid, then zinc would not likely work anyways. For best results to experiment I'd recommend eating with a zinc citrate capsule, probably just one, and seeing if that helps. You don't necessarily want to overdose on zinc supplements either. 100 mg max per day.

So are you saying you want more or less bioavailability? Do you know why they used ZnCl? I tried the Zicam cold remedy which has zincum aceticum and zincum gluoconicum and didn't seem to do squat.

I could not find any supplements anywhere that use ZnCl. I surprised some of the vitamin makers aren't jumping on this.

How much did you have to take before you noticed a difference in acid? What form of zinc did these have?

I take the Whole FooRAB brand Cal-Mag-Zinc. It has 25 mg of zinc (80% zinc oxide, 20% zinc amino acid chelate).

I think I've noticed a difference with 4-6 pills. If you have luck with this, you might want to try adding more alkaline fooRAB to your diet:

I try to keep my ph balanced by eating alkaline fooRAB as opposed to taking calcium supplements. However, some days I eat too many acid fooRAB and the quickest, easiest way to get back to balance is to take the Cal-Mag-Zinc supplements.
