Anyone else want to discuss Catcher in the Rye?

I've read this book every couple of years since I was in junior high. I found my older sister's copy when I was a kid, and I read it all on my own--I didn't even know it was "famous" til later!

I re-read it before the holidays just now, which is appropriate--cuz it takes place during the holidays.

I know not everyone likes it, but I love it--it's about the TERROR and inevitability of growing up. It's sad but hopeful, at the very end! I'm so glad it exists.

It also made me think about America, and how its changed since the 1940s... it seemed so prosperous then. Now, it's in a recession, etc...
I don't care if ppl hate it; it makes it more special to me because not everyone likes it!!. I think it's cuz they're forced to read it for school too, thats y.
Also--Holden isn't very likable, but he's not supposed to be. He's like most of us: we have "bad" thoughts about people, but it's up to us how to react...
This book made me feel SO GOOD, cuz it makes me realize I'm not the only one who feels confused and sad by human behavior sometimes. Just to read a book that is widely read, like this, gives me great empathy.
