Anyone else tired of Family Guy reusing jokes?

It seems like the Family Guy writing staff is getting lazy. For the last few seasons we have gotten recycled joke after recycled joke. This is one reason why I like American Dad more, they don't do that as often and the stories have actual plots.

I mean some of the overused and recycled jokes in FG are:

The Conway Twitty scenes. Once or twice was enough. The extra long scene a couple of episodes ago was way over kill.

The scene where someone falls and groans for a minute. Is that 3 now? Peter-Peter-and not Lois.

Brian's novel.

Stewie talking in that high pitched voice to Brian about his novel.

Meg Bashing. Enough is enough. It has gotten so old and just seems like lazy writing.

Aquaman jokes. We get it, Super Friends made him useless.

Also jokes that are just a recording with no real animation. The Christian Bale and the announcer over the intercom at the horse racing tracks come to mind.

Anyone else have any?

The ones that I don't like are the "jokes" that are just referencing some other TV show, movie or current event and a FG character is randomly placed in the scene. The scene that has Peter substituting for Michael J. Fox in the opening of Back to the Future is an example of this. Another is the scene where Tom Tucker and Diane Simmons reference The Electric Company, which leads to an animated reenactment of TEC's original opening title sequence. Again, there's no joke there. it's just "Hey! We referenced an old TV show from your childhood. Go laugh now!"

And I'm tired of the Meg bashing jokes also, but the time to have rectified Meg's situation is long past now. The writers have already stated that they don't know what else to do with the character, and I don't see Meg suddenly gaining an upsurge in popularity at this stage, so the character's fate of being the "red-headed stepchild" of the Griffin family is pretty much sealed now.

:^: Eh, for better or for worse, all of the above is pretty much what Family Guy does now. FG stopped being a traditional sitcom with genuine plot and character development years ago; the current FG is more of a comedy-variety show where the jokes and gags supersede plot and characters. I'm not saying that it doesn't always work, 'cause some of their gags are indeed funny, but the show pretty much is what it is, and it's continued success in its' current form indicates that it won't be going back to sitcom mode anytime soon.

Having said that, I think the Giant Chicken Fights get less funny each time they're brought back, but honestly, when's the last time they've done that?

I'm sick of the chicken fight joke. It wasn't funny the first time, why would it be the next thousand times?

This is why I honestly have quit watching the show. The new episodes are such a bore to watch and the jokes are honestly unsuitable to call 'jokes'.

One of the things that I hated was when a flashback contained Christina Aguilera getting her singing criticized by Peter. One, Peter is not much of a singer himself, and two, that entire segment felt like nothing more than Seth MacFarlene writing in how much he loves to act as if the God of Music. I mean, yes he has a great singing voice, I understand that, but he needs to stop rubbing it in our faces and acting as if he's better than everyone else. She's not THAT bad, her music is mediocre at best, but it's not worth the effort.

There's some blatant cheesiness and bitter selling out that the episodes seem to be reaking of these days. Either they're trying too hard or not trying enough.

I'll give you this one. The last one was overlong but at the same time (IMHO) it was hilarious because it was so long. Hopefully this is the end of it.

The first time was way back in season 2. The second one (from the A-Team episode a few seasons ago) was set up completely different and didn't last nearly as long. The last one that aired last night at least had a twist that it was another character, and one I actually didn't expect.

He's writing a novel. How is this a re-used joke?

As far as I'm concerned they only really did this joke once. The second time Stewie got slapped for it immediately and the most recent time Stewie shut Brian up for being a dumbass.

This is what Meg is for now. Just gotta deal with it. Because it's not going anywhere.

I can't get enough Aquaman jokes. Because he is a useless character once you really think about it. They've really only done a couple of these. Doesn't seem like overkill.

Which was gold, if only for Peter's little comebacks.

I'll give you this one too. Didn't work for me.

I'd say Stewie mispronouncing words to get on Brian's nerves and Cleveland in the bathtub. But I think those are hilarious.

I'm getting real tired of the Cleveland-bathtub gag. It was funny first and 2nd time, but now it was stale the 3rd time.

They've only done it 3 times now.
You didn't find it funny, but several others have liked it, I remembered years ago I was excited to see Peter & the Chicken duke it out for the 2nd time. And the reason why it's liked is because fights in Family Guy/American Dad are pretty awesome.

In season 4 it was cool cause the show had been off the air for a few years, so it was a nice reference to the old days. Now whenever they re-use a joke it's just lazy.

My mom got the joke, but she found it annoying and facepalm'd the first time, plus for some reason the joke didn't work for me... normally, that type of joke WOULD... but it didn't. Executed poorly IMO.

Pretty much this.

Indeed.

And out of all the reused jokes, I just find Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tubeman and variants of it to be the most annoying. It wasn't funny the first time, it wasn't funny in Blue Harvest, and it definitely wasn't funny in Former Life of Brian.

And yet it's FREAKING HARD to get it out of my mind.

If Family Guy had racist humor I would laugh more at that than Meg-bashing reallly, is it really that hard to at least not make her appear in some episodes, so that they can't piss me off any longer.

Sorry if I'm ranting about Meg-bashing again, but someone's gotta defend her.

It was hilarious the first time, at least in my opinion. The second time (in "Blue Harvest") it wasn't that funny, but at least it was short. The most recent time (with the lawn ornaments) was just painful. I'll agree on that.

I see "Blue Harvest" as a love letter to fans of both Family Guy and Star Wars. I think you have to really like both in order to find this episode funny. Luckily I (as well as many of my friends) really, really like both.

for me the blue harvest episode was not that badi overall i enjoyed some of the different thinking that FG twisted into funnyness but the coach thing is what killed it for me. seriously that gag killed the entire episode for me. it was not strong to begin with and the coach killed it.

sorry i meant couch big brain fart there.

Uh! I hate it when they recycle material like that. It just bugs me that they aren't original.

Alright people (writers) we already get the jokes and stuff now lets move to something we don't already get.

Com'on make fun of the economy, make fun of Barack Obama. Com'on do something FG's writers. Or we will not watch your show.

While it was nice that it was a different character this time around, I wished they changed it up even more. I mean, I saw the joke coming a mile away, but like Speedy Boris said in the talkback thread, they could have had Lois not trip up, comment on it and then maybe something else hitting her. Still, it wasn't the worse gag they could have reused.
