Anyone else still not seen Avatar?

Pretty sure someone asked this a few weeks ago, if not before that another few weeks prior, but no I haven't. It just looks daft and really doesn't hold any appeal, I've never been one for going "aaah" at things just because they're BIG and NEW and SHINY.
 
I've not seen it either. I want to but I don't fancy sitting in a cinema for over 3 hours just to watch a film. Seats at the pictures are well uncomfy. I wish films were 90 minutes long again.
 
Personally I loved it, and I think it lived up to the hype. I saw it a few weeks after it was released, and everyone was raving about it. I thought it couldn't possibly be as good as people made out, but after watching it I definitely agree with all the praise it got. For me, while there is so much more to it than just romance, it was the romance that made me fall in love with the movie. Zoe Saldana was perfectly cast and gave an excellent performance. The battle scenes were stunning, as was the world that was created.

This is coming from someone who thought The Dark Knight was extremely overrated. No film is going to appeal to everyone, so I guess you'll just have to watch it for yourself.
 
Ive seen it the story is really good i think liked the mytholgy behind the beings on pandora it think it was well written especailly the morals in the story i think it came together to be a really good film
 
Just seen it, I didn't think it was that bad, the special effects, CGI etc were brilliant and the blue alien guys looked almost lifelike. It was a very straightforward good vs evil storyline and it kept me entertained for most of the 2.5 hours it was on screen.

Yes the dialogue was awful but it wasn't ever intended to be Shakespeare. And yes the story was basically Pocahontas in space which meant that you knew basically what would happen but there was enough banging and crashing and chasing and blowing things up to make it a decent action film.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend it but I don't think it's that bad and it's nowhere near as woeful as Titanic imho.
 
This, more or less, sums up my view on Avatar, at least on the non-technical level. The only thing I'd say different is that the CGI didn't impress me as much as I expected, considering the hype. It looked impressive compared to other films before, but not to the levels of being realistic (well, they were fictional blue aliens, but I mean that they looked like plastic characters instead of organic beings). Maybe it was a Valley Effect of some sort, or maybe I was just looking for it. Still, the animation was an improvement, but there's still a long way to go before it looks organic... at least in my eyes.
 
A friend of mine described it as visually stunning at the cinema but reckoned that element would be diminished greatly watching on TV - whatever media you use.

And as he said "don't expect a story."

I won't bother.
 
No, I've not seen it and am not bothered about doing so.

As said should it turn up on a channel one day and nothing else is on I'll have a look.

(PS - Still not seen Titanic either...James Cameron has made some of my favourite TV shows and films of all time, but in the past decade we seem to have parted ways :cry:)
 
I have 50% seen it:p. I was lent a pirate DVD and it was so pixelated and jumpy that the graphics were not visible so I had the story only (audio) with some shapes on the screen to assist me.

The story was too 'tribal' for me (I don't like such stories where people are tuned to Mother Earth as the characters depicted are always too swishy and airy). That silly tree was painful to watch too.
