Anyone else like Dalton as Bond?

I actually really like Timothy Dalton as James Bond. He is really true to Flemings books and much better than that light playboy Roger Moore.

Licence to Kill is one of my favourite BonRAB as it is brilliantly violent and slick.

I still would say Dalton is only the fourth best Bond (Connery, Craig, Brosnan are ahead of him).

However, I feel he is over-crticised as I feel Fleming would have loved him.

What do others think?
 
I thought he was a terrific secret agent, but he just didn't feel like the Bond I grew up with.

Maybe Dalton was just like the Bond from the books, but I've never read them, so I don't know.
 
A great Bond but let down by the awful Licence to Kill. The Living Daylights was pretty near perfect but LtK was even worse than The Man with the Golden Gun.
 
Yes, Dalton is my fave Bond. 'The Living Daylights' being my fave Bond film.
He had the right mix of class and brutality, and the films had the right mix of gadgets and action.
 
I liked Licence to Kill as well, but Living Daylights was better.
I often wonder what Dalton would have been like in Goldeneye
 
It looked like it was dubbed by the same people who do spaghetti westerns and David Hedison was awful. The presence of Robert Davi should've been a warning.:eek:
 
I disagree about Moore. Bond had got silly and he knew it. He couldn't play it with the seriousness of those early Connery films. Having said that I love Moonraker!

As for Dalton, he was good but a bit miserable. Not that humorous really.
 
Me too - I love Dalton as Bond and The Living Daylights is his best film, although Licence to Kill is great too. Goldeneye was written for him as well, that's why it's the best of the Brosnan BonRAB. I think Sean Connery is still my ultimate Bond, just because he established the role, but if I'm being honest with myself, I think Dalton is actually better.
 
I liked Dalton better than Brosnan and it was a shame that he didn't catch on at the time and was allowed to continue. Somebody else mentioned on another thread that Dalton's Bond was probably ahead of it's time seeing as Daniel Craig's Bond has been so critically acclaimed.
 
I'm not not a big fan of the franchise but I have seen at least one film starring each of the various actors.

Based on that Timothy Dalton was my favourite Bond and also I think the best actor to play him.
 
Actually, Goldeneye was written with Dalton in mind and he was invited back to play the role. It was Dalton who turned it down, feeling that after such a long break between films, he didn't wish to reprise the character. As it happens, Brosnan is the only actor to play Bond who hasn't left of his own accord. Even Lazenby was invited back and turned it down.

As fo rthe topic of the thread, my favourite Bond was always Roger Moore. But then this was because he was the first actor I saw playing the role and I was just a kid at the time. Then, as I grew up an appreciated quality acting and storytelling more, Dalton quickly became my favourite. He was terribly underappreciated in what he did and its a crying shame he never got to make more Bond films. I love both The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill. Both great films and Dalton is a great actor; possibly the best actor to ever play the part.
 
I think Dalton doesnt get the recognition he deserves for his contribution to the Bond series. I think he had the right mix of suaveness and coldness required for the part.

As people have already said, he played it closest to Flemings original vision for JB, and for that he should be applauded. The Living Daylights is my second favourite, whilst I think the theme tune is the best of the lot.

I think Licence to Kill was a much weaker film, despite Dalton's presence...it just didnt work for Bond. Felt too much like an Schwarzenegger or a Stallone movie for my liking.

It's a shame he didnt stay with the role, I would have liked to have seen how different Goldeneye would have been with him leading the charge.
 
I've started thinking that more and more as I've gotten older. He was really poor.



I was fed up of seeing him walk into a room, or a palace, and finding a hot bird or two who he shags ten seconRAB in.



Maybe that's the writer or director's fault. I can't remember him being given too many funny lines in either of his films.



Yeah, but then we wouldn't have been able to see Brosnan in his best Bond film by far.



When you say, "getting it," are you referring to the books, or to what you think would suit your tastes nowadays? :confused:
