Anyone else finding Lovefilm quite sluggish at the moment?

You've got half the solution there.

If you want better control over which films they send, do the following:

Set up two lists, a 'send now' and a 'not yet' list if you will
Set all your disc assignments (i.e. the discs they'll actually send) to the 'send now' list
Put the few films you want to watch most on the 'send now' (never more than your max at once disc assignment)
Keep the rest of your films on the 'not yet' until you really want to watch them (at that point, move them to 'send now' list)
Enjoy watching the films you're most eager to see

Remember, Lovefilm allows multiple lists and it allows to choose which list(s) to actually send discs from. There's absolutely no reason to remain subject to their randomness unless you truly don't care what gets sent next.

My main 'send now' list only ever has 3 films on it and ALL of my 3-disc assignment is set to it. I have two other lists with about 40 films on them. The three films I most want to watch at any given point are the only films on my main list.

Using this method, I can properly plan my viewing in advance, I can ensure multiple films in a series are sent at once or at least in order. I'm very happy with Lovefilm due to my discovery of this. I'd hate the randomness otherwise since making things 'high priority' was no guarantee of anything and films with 'long wait' would never get sent.
 
Postage has been fine. Only ever had one 2 problems before, one with a scratched disc, another when they sent me the wrong movie. It was resolved quickly.

The way these online rental services work with us prioritising certain films etc., well they can't read minRAB if you put something in a high priority queue and then you don't want it when they give it to you.

My only gripe is that there are some films that they simply don't have available. Films that have been released on Region 2 and are still available, not deleted or anything. Not even obscure pictures - I wanted to add Man On Fire in my list the other day and it was unavailable.

I feel guilty enough about illegal downloading habits of the past - I still do it for movies that I can't get anywhere (and I mean anywhere) else unless it means buying a knackered NTSC VHS copy on eBay for
 
I seem to be doing ok at the moment; when I return a watched disc I seem to get a new one within two or three days. I guess it could help that most of my top priority titles are actually older releases. Currently working my way through Trial and Retribution.

I have had one or two faulty discs but have usually received a replacement within 48 hours of reporting the fault.
 
I'm sure I rented that not all that long ago - but you're right, it's not available.

Blockbuster have some titles on an exclusive deal. I can't imagine that an older title would be one of them, though.
 
I believe you can't get Man on Fire from lovefilm because it is owned by one of the film companies they are having trouble with, so they are not allowed to rent out any films from that company? or am I completely wrong here.

Man on Fire is avaliable on Blockbusters.

Unless you meant the original from the 80s and not the Denzil Washington one, therefore ignore all the above...
 
i'm lucky if i'm getting one a week at the moment, compared to the next day arrival i've been used to before. This is the worst period i've been through so far, agree with the op. But i still like them, for sheer choice, nobody else even comes close.
 
I just started trying them out and they seem pretty good so far. I cant believe people thought they just sent random films LOL. try a bit of research before u slag it

Its a cool and cheap way to watch loaRAB films IMO, its all going to be stuff you like as you make a big list of choices then they send them periodically. I was actually buying lots DVRAB before and wasting loaRAB of money, so this has been a good option for me so far.
 
Thats bad...have you tried contacting there customer service team, maybe they will give you some free time or extra rentals to compensate for your awful free trial?
 
I think a lot of the problems with scratched discs is many folks, for reasons best known to themselves, don't bother telling LoveFilm there's a problem with the disc and just send it back, ready for the next poor sod.

Yes. They posted a Disc out to me on sat last week and I still dont have it now. But I can't complain because I'm on a 2 month free trial. I was thinking of maybe taking out a subscription when it enRAB but now I've just subscribed to the cineworld unlimited card I dont think I'd have time to watch so many movies. Might just do the 2 rentals a month one.
 
Definitely worse lately... Seems a lot slower when I'm not changing any of my posting times. For example, I sent my DVD back on Monday morning - it's Wednesday afternoon now and the site still isn't recognising they've got the disc, let alone trying to find a new choice.

Used to be send Monday > process and send Tuesday > receive new disc Wednesday. :rolleyes:

Has anyone complained yet to see what the response is?
 
Posted my last film back Saturday morning. Got the email today (Wednesday!) that my next rental has been despatched. Maybe if I am lucky it will get here Thursday before the Bank Holiday. Not good.
I don't like there payment method either, putting them in control of your money. It's not like you can just cancel it at your bank.
 
I think it's slowed down a heckuva lot since we last had a package.My theory is that if you only have the "One dvd at a time" package it is a lot slower.At the moment we only get 1dvd a week and we used to almost get a new one every
2nd day.

To test the theory were going post the next one we get straight back just to see how long it take for another to be mailed


When we were previously with lovefilm we would have a notification to say a new dvd had been mailed and the next day it was with us.Now we have to wait at least 2 days.It seems a common theme.
 
I'm having no problems at all with LF. I work to a regular schedule - send discs back on a Monday or Tuesday, and receive new discs on Friday or Saturday.

If there is a weakness in their service, it is that the postal system doesn't do much over the weekend, and neither does LF. So, if you post something back to LF on Wednesday, or later, you'll be lucky to get anything back until Tuesday of the next week.
 
Most likely because if everyone could dictate the exact films you wanted next, you would end up with longer waits for your next disc, as they only have so many copies, and if they are all assigned, you would have to wait until it got to be your turn for the film, whenever they got the discs back, which might be a while considering you can keep the film for as long as you want.

At least the way it is, you wont have to wait long for something to come.

Having discs arrive which are scratched and damaged so the film or epiosde doesnt play well pisses me off. Is it really so difficult for people to treat the dvRAB with enough care so as they dont get scratched to begin with?
