Anyone else fed up of Avatar yet?

that sounRAB like a load of shite, sorry. barring some miracle i imagine the 10ft blue thundercatsmurfs will remain 10ft tall thundercatsmurfs.

I bow to no-one in my admiration for James Cameron, and even though "Titanic" wasn't my bag and had some toe-curling dialogue, I had to admit it was a true spectacle and a brilliantly structured screenplay, even though - SPOILER ALERT - we all knew the ship sinks at the end.

BUT, I really have a bad feeling about "Avatar" - 'game-changing film technology' and eye-candy yada yada aside, no-one's talking about how excited they are by the story or the characters (always a bad sign), and everything I've seen of it just looks like an adult cartoon, or top-of-the-range X-Box cut-scenes.

MAYBE it will come alive in 3D, MAYBE the trailers are misrepresenting it, and yes, I'll probably be there in the first few weeks to see it on a big screen, but my expectations are really low...

I totally agree on all counts. And I'll hi-light the fact that my expectations are also low, based on the fact it's just a film! I do get excited every now again by a new film, and I was initially excited about this, as I hoped it would be the Sci Fi classic i'd craved, and it may be, but after seeing Moon and District 9, those cravings have been fulfilled and now Avatar really has it's work cut out to really knock me out. But, as I said in a previous post, lets not judge a film no one has actually seen yet (if you have, apologies, hope you enjoyed it!!), if you really don't care for it's look, then it clearly isn't for you.

i must admit, it looks pretty crap and i'm usually into fantasy stuff. its the 10ft tall smurf people that puts me off.. it all looks a bit too fanboyish for my tastes but i'll probably go to see it for the spectacle, and i imagine i'll sit through it as long as the 3D doesnt end up giving me a migraine.

and i don't get the fuss about james cameron tho.. only movie i liked of his was True Lies!

It's being ridiculously hyped up. I can't remember this much pre-release publicity for a movie since the first Star Wars prequel. Which makes me think it's going to be a bit of a letdown when it's released, but we'll see..

Agreed on the Titanic front - it is a very good epic film although it's become fashionable to dislike it...

I'm fed up with Avatar. Every time I see the word in a title I keep thinking its about Avatar: The Last Airbender (a film I'm looking forward to) not this video game nonsense.

Fact nobody seems to have mentioned yet: the last time James Cameron was in the director's chair wasn't for Titanic. It was for the final episode of Dark Angel, which had Jessica Alba skysurfing through a window and throwing down with a WWE wrestler, and a pregnant woman slugging a baddie while she was giving birth.

This has got nothing to do with JC. He has indeed given us a wealth of great movies in his time. But really, those aliens, they look f*cking awful.

They look exactly like made-up cartoon aliens are supposed to look.

And I expect a lot more from him.

Doubtless this will be a spectacle and doubtless I will go and see it. But if it wasn't JC, the look of the aliens alone would put me off.

They're childish.

In YOUR opinion maybe. I say a 3d trailer at the cinema last night and it looked FANTASTIC. Nearly brought tears to my eyes. Go and see it and THEN be critical if you must.
