K, so I have a plan that I discussed with my mom. I want to move in with her and my step bros next summer, or better yet, over Xmas! But the problem is that I might have to show up in court and tell them what I want! Good, but my dad would SHIT A BRICK! I might tell him my plan beforehand, but I don't know how to go about this either!! Advice anyone?!?!

Devin - you don't mention why you want to move. It has to be in your best interest. If you don't like his bedtimes or rules of the house - that is not good enough reason. Will you have your own room when you go live with your mom? Some states say boys after age 13, they should have their own room. If there are problems with your dad, you still need to fix it, even if you leave to go live with your mom. Are the schools better where your mom lives? And it doesn't mean things will be better over there, just different (there my not be the same problems, but there will surely be problems).

Your dad will know before the court date of your wishes - so you have to tell him! Write down the reasons why you want to move and give it to him BEFORE you ask your mom to make a court date. See if you guys can't work something out. If he's not willing, you tried your best. Good luck.

You don't mention your age but you certainly sound old enough to be able to make the choice of living with your mom. Is she capable and willing to let you move in? Are you afraid of your dad? If so, there are child court advocates. Tell your mom you'd like to avoid facing your father and talk to an advocate. They will be your voice in court. They are there to help you. Good luck.
