Hi all
it's nice to see a board where individuals share their stories and receive lots of useful help and suggestions! i haven't posted anywhere else about my anxiety and have been struggling with it on and off for about 4 years now. i know the root of my anxiety comes from child-hood and the fact that i'm over-sensitive to the world around me. i've seen many doctors and been prescribed many medications. the problem with me is that I HATE MEDICATION! i know it's suppose to help you but i always get paranoid that it does more damage than good. thus, i've been trying to gather ways of avoiding anxiety and helping it subside with natural methoRAB. i've tried: gaba, yoga, visualization, valerian + other herbs like chamomile, hanging out with frienRAB and even animal therapy. it seems to have temporary effects or i get bored and lack the will power to continue. does anyone have any recommendations as to what is best and what they do to calm their anxiety without the use of medication? in the summer my anxiety was so bad, it triggered multiple physical symptoms and i was ill the entire four months that i had off. i do not want this to happen again! any help would be great, thank you.

Hi And sorry to hear you are having difficulty with anxiety.
My first experiance with anxiety was very mild. I did all the natural allternatives. Next thing I knew, the anxiety worrrsened and became so frequent I altered my lifestyle to the point I couldn't leave the house.
If natural allternitives don't work for you I have to suggest medication. I know you don't want to hear that, but the science has come a long way. And, if you start out on a very low dose it may be all you need to have some quality of life. I started out on 5mg of buspar a day. Very inexpensive and no side effects....for me. Take it from a an experianced severe anxiety sufferer. I have found no other way to keep it at bay.
