I remember people being opposed to the idea, but I don't remember that they didn't tell the people the details of the plan or what it would cost.
For instance, in the beginning, the Medicare tax was about 1/3 of a percent payroll tax, and it cost $3 per month to enroll in Part B. It's has gone up since then due to inflation, but I think they originally told people what the cost would be. Now we have no idea how much the Public Option Insurance will cost. What will be the cost for an individual? for a family? All I have heard is the penalty I have to pay if I don't buy insurance. I tried to read the bill -- couldn't find the answer. I asked my congresswoman, but she didn't answer.
Another thing no one has told me, what happens if you pay the fine instead of getting insurance and then you get in an accident. Will the hospital refuse to treat you?
The bill is so difficult to understand, and so much is dependant on what the overseers will decide in the future. I think more people would support the plan if they understood it. I feel we are being asked to buy a television over the internet without being told the brand or the price.
