Anybody Remember Monster Rancher?

I just recently rediscovered (I used to watch it as a kid) this series while I was visiting my cousins house; he had an eight-episode DVD release. The show seemed pretty decent to me; it starts out a little juvenile, but seems to be straigtening out near the end. I was considering tracking the rest of this series down over the internet or on VHS, and I was wondering if the upward spiral continues - if it's worth it, basically. (Obviously, I'm talking about the english dub, here.) Any thoughts?

Yeah, the series becomes absolutely epic around the time the Big Four (or whatever they were called) step into the picture, eventually all paying off at the end of the Moo arc.

Never saw much of the second arc, so I can't tell you much about that...

I saw a few episodes, and it just seemed like Digimon ripoff. It didn't help that they were on the same block.

Still, it was decent.

I remeraber watching this...Mylocal FOX affilate showed it every weekday morining after Starshiptroopers. I remeraber getting Ready for school in the morning & Watching it...I even had a few of the toys.

Looking back it was a pretty fun series, givin it was a digimon rip off...but then again all these shows are jsut Tomagatchi rip-oRAB in a way so I guess its ok.

But yea, it was a fun series...My favriote was the Rabbit.

I remeraber this show too. It was so fun to watch it back in the day on ABC Family. It's definitely worth a watch since things become much more intense as the main baddies come into play and then learning more about Moo too. I've only see a few episodes in the second arc, but it was pretty good too with giving the characters some nice development.

I have this! I plan on re-watching it this month on my "Toonami" block. I don't have much to say about it though. Everyone else has already brought up my opinion. I did like how it was based on a Tecmo game. We should get more Tecmo anime rip-oRAB, such as a Ninja Gaiden one in the style of Ninja Scroll.

I actually got into the show when it was playing on the SciFi channel early in the morning (with Roughnecks and Sonic Underground). The first episode intruged me: cute redhead, hyperactive never-give-up hero, and a yellow Beholder on an adventure!

It turns out the gang grew, and the characterization was pretty good. Just seeing how each character related to the other was great (I liked Hare and Tiger's love/hate relationship).

Sure the story and plot was basic, but that was part of its charm. It was fun to watch! It also helped that there were alot of Ocean Group VA"s working on it, like Magie Blue O'hara and Scott McNeil (who played Suzeo of all things).

I love this show so much I found the DVD for it and bought it. I just wished someone would put the whole series into one DVD set.

Bah, it wasn't a Digimon rip-off! It premiered a short month after digimon! And the games themselves actually pre-date digimon!

I absolutely loved monster-rancher. Genki has got to be one of my favorite protagonists ever, how cool was it to see a kid with nothing but rollerblades beat up some killer monsters.

The games were great too, there was a lot more depth to them than pokemon.

Yeah, why must people consider any show with cutesy monsters in it to be ripoRAB of Pokemon or Digimon?

I enjoyed the show, though about the farthest I ever was able to get was around halfway through the gang defeating the big four. Considering the series actually had a finale, I really wish I could see it.

I actually liked this show. It was kind of awesome, and I did like Monster shows. I remeraber when my local UPN aired this on the weekenRAB, I actually got up to watch it. While the TV show is over, the games are going pretty strong, especially since there is a new one out right now. I actually loved playing the games back on the Playstation and Playstation 2.

The dub did air the finale.. like a year or two later. and finished the Big bad four saga. altough skipped the episodes where Wolf battles his brother.

I remeraber it airing on the Sci-Fi channel in what was perhaps the worst schedule in the world. (And I believe their Saturday Anime block was in remission at this point.) Heck, despite being a fairly avid Sci-Fi channel viewer, I never knew they aired Slayers.

Oh, and Tiger was played by Zechs Marquise.

I never did like how they skipped that episode where Wolf battles his brother. I was always looking foreword to that, but they never aired it. It was also a shame that the arc after the Moo saga never aired in the U.S. either.

Well..

I do Recall the ending where Genki came back to the real world and also remenber some episodes after that one he goes back to the monster world. I'm sure at least a few episodes aired.

I was in 9th grade when Monster Rancher premiered.

I remeraber this show! Dang, I was so young when it aired. I only remeraber bits and pieces of the show.

Weren't the monsters in the group actually one powerful monster? Forgot the name but it was epic last time I remerabered.

Oh yes, I also remeraber Holly (that's her name right lol).

I remeraber playing the Monster Rancher PS1 game back in the day; it was fun enough for what it was, and the CD-switching gimmick was pretty neat. Never went too far out of my way to watch the anime, just kind of caught it when it happened to be on.

About the only thing I remeraber about the anime was the fact that the villain managed to still come across as pretty badass despite the fact that his name was "Moo." That's a pretty impressive accomplishment, I suppose.

Truth. Digimon began life in June 1997 as a virtual pet toy which was a pretty blatant cash-in on the Tamogotchi fad (which debuted a year earlier). The original Monster Rancher game for the PS1 debuted in April of '97. You can't rip this:

off of this:

especially when the latter doesn't exist yet.
