i have recently learned in my psychology class that our military was sneaky about their testing. one of the questions on the army alpha test during world war I was "how many legs does a kaffir have?" i googled this and found it was a derogatory remark for a south african person? not sure if that is true but i am curious why this would be on the test

Well kaffir is an insulting term as well. It sounds like the question meant, does a black person have 2 legs, or 4 legs like an animal. It was probably testing for racism. Perhaps it wanted to make sure the people doing the illegal testing were racist. I don't know how valid your information is, and I can only be subjective as to why it could be, if I suppose it is true.

It might be a way to test for more than just general knowledge. I would think most people have no idea of the definition. Regretfully it's like the 'N' word here in the states.
Our military history is filled with actions that question my pride in serving in our armed forces. Some things we have done make me ashamed of our reputation.
FYI-- While being stationed in Japan 30+ years ago I learned that every time one of our ships came into port, the town was alerted and the young women were warned to stay in their homes. Our reputation has not been good for some time.

Well if it is a very offensive word and you are in the USA i am sure its not right for them to put those kinds of words on the test.
