any yamaha mechanics help please i own an xj 650 and is my 1st shaft drive bike?

the rear wheel is rubbing on the shaft drive just slightly how do i straighten the wheel between the swing arm i have taken the wheel assembly off the bike but not sure how to get into the shaft cover i dont want to break anything else as i just broke off the little ali cap that sits on the shaft cover (i think it may be a breather for the gear oil) any help please especially a step by step of how to do this

also it doesnt touch the other side of the swing arm just the 1 side and happened after hitting a pothole apparently
