Hey there.

I?ve searched the forums but i didnt found for a way to share a desktop internet connection with the phone by USB.

There are many ways to tether (share phone connection with the desktop/laptop, wired or wireless), but are there any way to share internet the opposite way?

thnx,
kanedb.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Yes, if you root your phone, and you are happy to mess around editing the wireless config files to add an ad-hoc wireless connection. You can then turn on internet connection sharing on your desktop to turn your desktop's wireless connection into an ad-hoc WiFi access point. Once it's all set up you end up with a connection like this:

Phone -> Desktop's Wireless card -> Desktop Computer -> Desktop's wired connection -> Router -> Internet

You will need two network connections on your desktop to do this (typically a wireless and a wired, and have the wired connected to your router).

Alternatively, buy a cheap wireless access point or wireless router. You can then just connect directly to that.

I need to share via USB.

I got a wireless router at home and can use the phone there.

But at my workplace there isnt two network cards and there is no wireless (security policy) lol

Isn't your work computer connected to the internet at all then?

Just your phone can browse using 3G, Edge, or GPRS (although painfully slow).

Your work computer (I imagine) has its own internet connection?

Probably wants to bypass his office's proxy so he can goof off at work watching YouTube... waitaminute, his has his phone...

3G, GPRS, Edge, etc, are very expensive in my country, so thats not an option.

xDSL internet connection prices are ok, so we have that everywhere.

At home i have a DSL connection and a WiFi router, so i can browse the android marketplace and/or use any internet based service on the phone.

But at my work i cant do that, there are some security issues and we cant use any WiFi, thats why i want to try using the USB cable.

I could, for instance, buy a cheap USB/WiFi network adapter and share internet with the phone, but as i said, i cant setup any WiFi network at my office.

Unfortunately not - as the OP mentioned in his first post...

PDANet is the wrong way around. It tethers the PC to the phone. He wants to tether the phone to the PC's internet connection.

You can use the WiFi connection to connect to the Internet via your computer's connection if that is what you mean. You just need to set up a wireless network between them. I don't think there is a way via USB.

I though I saw an app for this. but I recommend u go read cyans Twitter Cus some one is porting his Rom to the Droid. I'm sorry Idk the users name but if I had a Droid I'd be all over that Rom

Wow, a lot of people who fail at reading comprehension in this thread.

Here is a possible solution. I don't know if it works though: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg00563.html

If you have Cyanogenmod, it appears to be possible, though I'm not sure I'm doing it right. I went into Wireless settings and turned on USB tethering, then in Windows 7, I went to "Change Adapter Settings" in the networking center. I selected the desktop's internet connection and the Android internet connection, right-clicked, and bridged them, and now my phone can do google searches with Wi-Fi disabled, so it must be working.

The computer can no longer connect to the internet, though, and Gmail on the phone isn't syncing, so this solution still needs work...

Actually, wait... I can do Google searches without USB connected and with Wi-Fi disabled. That .... shouldn't be possible. It's connecting through 3G now? But I don't have a data plan.
