Any Trick to deleting "ROM - Can't Delete" Files?

Here's an age old questions that "Sprat" won't handle:

I want to delete the prior ROM installed PIM stuff and keep only the updates (PIMS update 36k, original ROM Version 33k).

I used TealMover, removed the "ReadOnly" checkbox, smiled and had a smoke . . . then deleted. "OH NO you won't" came back the message . . . it's in ROM, silly!! Tried Filez, same result. These are supposed to be FILE MANAGERS, boys and girls . . . . .

What good is removing an attribute if it doesn't "clear it for deletion?" Do you do a soft reset and THEN attempt?
I WANT COMPLETE CONTROL OVER THE FILE HIERARCHY!!!!

I am not spoiled - I am not am not am not am not !! DELEEEETE!!
DELETE DAMN YOU . . . . .

Paul,
Have you tried moving the file to a different location before deleting them? You also might want to check the file properties and uncheck the boxes next to read only, system, etc. I think this can be done in FileZ if you have the option selected to view rom files.

Good luck.

No luck yet using Filez or TealMover. I am not quite sure what you mean by "move to diffrent location;" it's in ROM on the T3.

Where would you suggest I "move" to different location? Rename the file? I'll mess with it . . . . .

thanks Dwinget!

If the file is moved from rom to some other location such as an SD card, the file has in essence been deleted from rom. It is similar to copying and pasting, but you choose move instead of copy.

Regarding changing file attributes, do the following:

In FileZ, you should check the box next to where it says ROM at the upper right of the screen. Tap internal. Highlight the file in the list and then tap the Details button. Open Attrs page and uncheck the buttons. Tap Save button. You should be able to then tap the Delete button.

I hope this works for you.

Thanks. Did that in both TMover and Filez; got message saying "no deletey, Paulie - file is in ROM" (although boxes had been unchecked.

I hadn't thought of moving them though (or trying); usually you'll get the same message.

The one in question is PIMS Support (33k) - the original PIMS "patch" that was replaced by the PIMS upgrade -- which is now in RAM. In other words I now have 2 - one from July of last year, and one from June of this year (obviously the new one).

Installing this upgrade calls for a soft reset so I imagine deleting the old (if that were possible) would crash the unit; that's okay . . . but Filez warned me of such a crash if I changed it, then wouldn't let me, then resotred the checkbox. Guess I'll leave it!!

Thanks for the help in any case.
