Any Toon That Was Inspiring To You?

Was there a time that a toon you saw was so inspiring to you? For me, it was the Looney Tunes toon in which Porky Pig met Uncle Sam who taught the history of America and how in the end, Porky said the pledge of alligence right. I also was awed when at one pont when Paul Revere rode his horse through the villages shouting, "To arms!! To arms!!" That was inspiring to me.

Hm... Interesting thread topic.

Currently of the stuff I'm watching, I'd have to say Macross Frontier is relatively inspiring. I find that the very outer space pursuit of mankind, coupled with the innate desires of its characters to become who they wish to be is tantamount to a sense of inspiration to reach for the skies so to speak or whatever. One line in particular stuck out to me:

"Why do people fly, sing, or do anything?"
"Because they can't stand not to."

If we're talking about 'toons as individuals... hm...:

-Optimus Prime is pretty inspiring. Of all the rather benevolent good guy characters, he seems to come across as a voice of authority of all that is good. The kindof fatherlike figure that will never waver in the face of death and let good triumph over evil.
-Tamaki Suou from Ouran High School Host Club. I mean, yeah he's pretty emotional and rather showy, but when you look at this past, and the way he handles people, I cannot help but be inspired by him. I wish I could be as genuine, sincere, and above all else understanding and considerate as Tamaki, and that's saying something because I seldom ever think I should wish to be like an anime character.

I think that one of the most inspirational cartoons is episode 17 of Digimon season 5 (Dub Title: Yoshi’s Biggest Battle: The One With Herself). In this episode, Yoshino is at first held back by fears about past experiences, not being as talented as peers, and holding others back. After she resolves her internal conflicts, her partner Lalamon can digivolve to a higher level and she is proven to be just as capable as anyone else. I definitely relate to this episode, as I am frequently distressed for the very same reasons. Yet when I can escape from the stress for a short duration, I prove it wrong. The only difference with me is that I sink in again...

Another one is episode 14 of Pok?mon season 1 (Dub title: Electric Shock Showdown). In this episode, Ash is up against a mean gym leader who has injured other trainers' pokemon and gives off the impression that Pikachu needs to evolve to win. In the end, Ash receives the badge without forcing Pikachu to evolve. Although I was too immature to understand this episode when I first saw it in 1999, watching it later taught me that it is not worth while to force yourself or someone you care about to change permanently for the purposes of revenge or achievement. It is inspirational because it shows that the desired outcome can be reached without such changes.

I don't know if there's any 1 cartoon that inspired me, as my work seems to be an amalgam of several different styles. However, the early Nelvanamation specials from the 80s has a profound influence on my drawing style. Up to then, my characters greatly resembled Charles Schultz's Peanuts characters, to the point when people would look at my cartoons and say "Charlie Brown!". I hated that.

The Nelvanamation specials such as The Devil and Daniel Mouse and A Cosmic Christmas created the drive in me to draw my characters with greater detail, and with with pupils in their eyes. Ever since then, I set out to venture beyond the Charlie Brown universe and learn other techniques. In the process of doing that, I discovered my own style.

Heres a list of whats inspired me, I don't think that its complete but it'll do.

The surrealism of Swing you Sinners!, The Bullet car from Superman and the Bulleteers, The mobs car from Superman and the Billion Dollar limited, Popeyes ways of fighting in Ali Baba and his 40 theives, Felix the Cats big eyes, appeal, and simplicity in design, Ranas simple frog yet expressive design from Spaceship Saggitarius, Dragonball Z's attacks and sci-fi suites, The Big Cheese from Samurai Pizza Cats, the basic character designs from Rocko's Modern Life, the plots and attacks from the unintetionally goofy Street Fighter cartoon, Meowths simple yet appealing design from Pokemon, the camera angles, goofy extras and villains, and cars from the classic Speed Racer, and Bings simple yet appealing design from Angry Beavers.

I can't really think of any cartoons that were inspiring to me or made me want to go out and achieve something. I of course have cartoons I love and cherish but nothing really inspiring...

When I was a kid and I used to go out and play with friends the TMNT theme song used to do the trick and get my adreneline pumping...

I agree with that to an extent. I don't think I was ever inspired by an individual episode, but I do tend to draw from some characters. For instance, I seem to be tapping into both Sally Acorn and Babs Bunny for the lead character to Drawn In, and when I make a funny remark in real life, I sometimes hear Norbert or Daggett.

However, I would say that the more serious, later eps of The Raccoons in general have been inspiring this long, deep, involved furry story I've been working on, just in the sense of taking the story more seriously and not making everything a happy ending.
