Any tips on writing a runaway story?

okay so just for fun, im writing a story about kids who are abused in an orphanage, and they decide to band together and try to make a run for it.

Err, thats the start of it

So what are things you would need to runaway? And any other tips on writing in general or anything?
its not gonna be a book.....
just a fanfic or whatever.
 
a secret key to the door that one day will bring him a Fortune. The door is located inside of the orphanage building. So, he will sneak back in one day ...
