i'm 16 and i complain a lot. it's not that i'm a negative person, it's more that i'm very awkward in social situations, so i use whining as my default. i really want to end this habit. any tips?

pinch your nostrils and count backward from 100 and jump off a chair while someone slams a door. That usually does it.

Go to a childrens hospital and sit with children who have aids and then try and complain about your life.

If you still can, you have no heart. Im sry but that's true.

I stop whining right away when I think about how many people have it worse than I do. It really makes me shut up.

Yes, go work a job where people are less fortunate than you.
Visit the elderly in a retirement home.
Go clean cages at the local animal shelter.
Work a week or a summer with an Easter Seals camp, like Camp ASCCA.
Or even go do mission work for a couple weeks.

What the problem is, is that your have become so accustomed
to the good life, that all you find left to do is complain. You need to see that not everyone, even in America, is as fortunate as you. ANd then be THANKFUL for the things and life you have.

Try to be positive, hear what you are going to say in your head before you blurt it out . I do this and I think about peoples reactions before I say things.

It is easy to monitor it. When you start complaining just stop and listen instead. Count your blessings.

No one will miss your whining and soon you will be happier because you are only talking about positive things.

Try to catch yourself when you begin to whine. If you catch yourself, simply take a step back, take a deep breath and clear your mind - Come up with something more positive to say or don't say anything at all.

Also, try changing your tone of voice from whiny to cheerful!

you should see the glass half-full instead of half-empty. Find the good things in life and you will feel better about everything. It will make you a better person.

Have someone randomly tape record it while you are doing it & then play it back & force yourself to listen to it.

Look at your whining as karma. The more you whine, bad will happen to you. The less you whine, good things will come your way. Now stop whining, I dare you.
