Any recent movies that will stand the test of time?

I would say LOTR will be remembered in years to come.

Personally I like TWO TOWERS but think that the whole trilogy will certainly be remembered simply because of the sheer size of production and time and effort. This films themselves are also good. However its only a combination on the 2 that will ensure it is remembered.

Also LEON is and should always be a CULT CLASSIC!

A decent Europen movie made in the states. Hollywood for once got it right!!!

Well since the 1960s anyway :D But I agree whole-heartedly with your point. If I was to think of a 'classic films', I would think of hundreRAB of different films than had I been asked to name 'classic epics'. Lawrence of Arabia is a wonderful film, but I wouldn't automatically think of it as part of my own 'top 100 of all time'.

Agreed - I was shocked that it didn't win a single Oscar at the time. Such a strong compelling story that was unfortunately branded by the Daily Mail brigade as 'that film where they beat everyone up - disgusting' :( Oh well - I suppose only history will tell...

I watched LA Confidential on video a couple of nights ago. It must be at least five years since I last saw it and I'd forgotten just how good it is.

I'm not convinced about any film that relies heavily on special effects though. Technology moves on quickly and in only a few years the effects in some of these films will seem obsolete.

Gimics are a poor sustitute for good acting/writing and a solid plot.

I'd definately agree that 'City of God' is a great movie... however I don't think it's that accessible and therefore it would never get the recognition it deserves.

This is a comedy? I'm sure my mum bought this on VHS ages ago and I never really gave it a chance... thought it was silly space kiddy movie. Might need to relook at it.

Tolkien's book has lasted the test of time... and I don't see the popularity of the book fading. People are going to want to see this book come to life, and therefore if the book is still selling well; the film is going to be doing just as well. Even if the book isn't selling that way, the story, the depth, the characters and the whole directing of the film most likely will continue to keep audiences, new and old, entertained for many years in the future.

The Sixth Sense is a great movie, but once people know the ending it does become a one-hit wonder for many. Sure people will go back and watch it again to spot the minor details left in and things like that; but if it can be classed as a classic of our generation... I don't know.

I really need to give this film a reviewing. I saw it during the summer half-asleep and just hoping the girl would get naked. :P I didn't watch it knowing the acclaim it had, but the twist I remember was very well done, and the action scenes were really cool too..

Something About Mary? It's a fun popcorn movie but we get them every summer... I can't see it standing the test of time. Dumb & Dumber perhaps could though.

I agree with Jurrassic Park. Spielberg does seem to make movies that last forever.

Mmm... I think the first Matrix will never be forgotton, but I don't see it being the benchmark in five years time. SFX is progressing rapidly, and hopefully Hollywood will pull it's head out of it's arse and start to employ script writers who can write exciting action movies again... saying that, the Terminator films may not look as snazzy as 2004 action films, but they have stood the test of time so perhaps its just my bad memories of Reloaded that's causing me to doubt it. :(

Oh yeah, and sorry if I'm appearing to be some movie know-it-all over-analysing what everyone's said.

All these people saying Lord of the Rings are the best films ever has given me a pain in my ring I did think they were good but not a patch on the Star Wars saga.

The Star Wars Original trilogy are some of the best films ever(cant say the same about the prequel trilogy as episode 1 lets the side down apart for the podrace scene),but having seen all the lotr trilogy i think these films will be remembered for a long time yet
