Any reason to keep a old SD dish (2 LNB)

I've ordered a Bell Expressvu HD package with two 6131 receivers.

I purchased my house 2 years ago. The previous owner left behind a dish (currently mounted on the roof) that has 2 SD LNBs. It could have been Bell, but I'm not sure.

Is there any reason to keep this unit? Any potential future use?

Many thanks

There is no such thing as an SD LNBF.

If the Dish has 2 x LNBF's on a "Y" yolk then it is more than likely compatible with Bell TV.

Just ask the Tech to re-use the mounting mast, if it is in a loction where you will not have problems with Line Of Sight and discard the old Dish and let him put up a new one for you.

Is it worth putting it in the buy and sell here at DHC, or ebay it?
Not sure what their actually value is, but it might be worth something to someone.
Better than ending up in landfill.

Sorry, yes that's what I have.

Then you have 2 choices, either use it for the new Bell receivers or have the installer put in a new one and get rid of the old one. Or keep it as a spare.

Thanks Pinza.

So, this old Bell dish can be used with the HD receivers? I thought the dish had to be designed specifically for HD reception?

It sounds like you have the 20" Dish which is the standard one.

Signals from BOTH orbital locations will be picked up by the 2 x LNBF's and combined using either a pair of SW21's or an SW44, the resulting signals can then picked up by the receivers. If that receiver is an HD one, you get some of the channels in HD, and the rest in SD.

I would keep the older LNB's as spares should you have one go bad in the future.

Definitely. It likely isn't worth selling the dish, but the spare parts may come in handy.

Does it look like this?

I'd keep both dishes. If the dish thats there all ready is pointed at 82/91 use that one. Use the new dish you get to point at 72.5. Even though BTV isn't using that spt at this time in 2010 N5 is set to launch, though 16TRS are going to be leased to Dish, the remainer will be BTV as to what wil be put there is anyones gues but this way your set.
