Any point getting a HIV test one months after unprotected sex?

I recently had unprotected sex and am afraid I might have contracted an STD as I was diagnosed with Molluscum contagiosum (similar to genital warts). I want to get an HIV test but hear it does not show up for 3-6 months. Is there any point getting the test beforehand and is there any other signs to look out for??
