Any Other Phone Besides The Droid Incredible That Can Connect Via Wi-Fi?

I'm looking at a way to effectively replace my expensive landline, and a cell phone with wi-fi capability would likely work for me. I was not aware that anything was available until I saw this article:

Are there any other phones with this capability currently available, or soon to be, that I should also consider, or is the Incredible my single option?

Thanks for any help with this.

The Incredible is not capable of placing phone calls over wifi. Only certain types of T-Mobile phones that support UMA can do that, and T-Mobile doesn't seem willing to carry/promote them anymore.

Any reason a regular cellphone can't replace your landline? Do you make a lot of voice calls that you would need to change your plan?

Yes, I make on average, 8-10 hours a week of calls from my landline, as my fiance travels extensively for her work, and my cell plan cost would be outrageous if you added that on to my normal use. Also, the area I live in is slightly borderline for cell coverage, and having that as the only replacement for my home landline would not be advisable.

I had hoped that a cell phone that could conenct via wi-fi would solve my dilemma on how best to replace the landline.

I'm wondering: what about Google Voice? In theory, you could use that to make cheaper calls using your existing minutes. GV starts out as a regular voice call but goes through some Internet routing to make the call considerably cheaper, at least on your end. You set up a virtual number that others can call into; you can even have it route incoming calls to multiple actual lines, too. That way, you can have someone dial a single number but ring your cellphone, your land line, and other numbers at the same time.

You could use a Droid Incredible for GV, but really any modern Android phone should do it. Just need the appropriate app.

Does your fianc?e not have the same cellular service as you? If so, those are free calls anyway. All the cell companies also offer a plan or option to select a few numbers to get unlimited calls to, might want to look into that.

The major carriers also offer some kind of network extender that will plug into your highspeed internet; they're not a bad investment if you can replace a landline buy purchasing one.

Her company has a connection to Sprint, and she must use that provider. The big problem is that Sprint's coverage at my home is questionable at best. Their coverage map reports my area as "fair" and that seems to be optimistic, in reality.

I believe that TMobile has more or less done away with their calling circle. ATT, I believe still offers it. Also, if you went with a GSM carrier (those mentioned), you can purchase an unlocked phone with WiFi. I know that most of the higher-end nokias will allow you to do WiFi calling with an app or 2.

You could also go with an unlimited plan from your carrier of choice. Then you would never go over and most of them are fairly reasonable when you consider the cost of your landline too.

(What's up with the post editing!?)
