Any one have a little vib in rear brakes on a 2010?

I didn't have any problems until the 1000 mi service. When I picked it up it didn't have any rear brake no matter how hard you pushed. Then they started to catch. I rode them for awhile to burn whatever was on them off and after that they have that shake to them.

I was leaving for a trip and when I got back I took it back to the dealer for checking. They said the no brake issue might have came from the bike wash that wasn't cleaned off completely and the vibration was due to an over tightened drive belt. They adjusted the belt and got some of it out but, wait for it, here it is, "It's normal". I asked them why it only started after the incident after the 1000 mile service and they didn't have an answer.

I'll just keep making them check it every time I go there and they are only 9 miles from my house. I want to make sure it's documented as many times as they will and then the HD rep will make the final decision.

No other bike I have had has done this.

Tn.Heritage-- I apologise for butting into your thread but as the issues you are having may be related to and similar to my poblem as well I thought I would go ahead and post.

This is interesting-- some do--some don't. On my 09 If I dis-engage the clutch I don't get the shudder, and If I put more front brake on during decel the shudder reduces in magnitude somewhat but is still there.

In my post above I didn't describe the event very well as explained to me by HD so will add:
What HD says is happening is that by applying more or all braking on the rear brake, the driveline is pulling a load through the IDS and the secondary drive belt, then through the primary drive into the motor, which has no place to go but to pull (the motor) down onto the mounts.
Once the mounts have temporarily "collapsed" (or maybe a better term is temporarily become rigid), the energy then moves into the frame which is causing the shudder/vibration.

The dealer had my bike for a week and put about 40 miles on it in test rides, checking the mounts, IDS, drive belt, brake rotors, and even rode it with the bags off and by different test riders.

I would say they were thorough and as it was waranty work went to Milwaukee for advise from their tech group to inform me that the event could be re-created on other bikes and it's "normal".

The answer was to not use the rear brake only. Well, I normally don't use the rear brake only, but the event happens if I use partial front brake as well.

I'm not satisfied that "they all do that" so I am asking you guys to try something for me even though your bikes are 2010 models (which they say they re-created on the service managers 2010 UC).

Would you guys do the following as a favour for me? In a safe location would you please run your bike up to 55-60 mph in any gear and do a moderate to strong decel brake with the rear brake only, clutch engaged, then post your results here? You don't have to jump on the pedal, just do normal to strong braking. Going down a hill is the best way to feel it.

I know this is a big ask and I do appreciate your time take to do this for me, otherwise I have no comparison to gauge against.
I've been looking for a test ride day at one of the dealers but they are over now that it's colder this time of year where I am located, and the nearest dealer is 1-1/2 hours away best case anyway.

Thanks for your consideration to do this for me. Much appreciated. The beers on me when you come downunder!

sporacer-- thanks for your reply. If a few of the posters can come back to me I will be able to put this to bed as a 'normal' event.
Sounds strange I know, but this has been eating at me for a couple of months now and results will help me make a decision to either pursue this further with HD or accept it as is. Personally I don't think a top dollar HD should do this.

Well I actually have some rpm related vibration, but I have deemed it as fairly minor, but cetainly more than my EVO FLHT (in the sig line)-- that bike was smooooth and many times I find myself wishing I stil had it.

With the 09 UC at about 3000 rpm in any gear other than 6th the vibes in the footboards feel somewhat harsh, but not constant-- more like it comes and goes as I change rpm/road speed through the gears at around 2900-3100 rpm. Other rpm positions are generally smooth and the best is in 6th at 65 mph and above (where it should be).

It doesn't bother me much other than being noticeable-- it is a Harley and you can't get away from all of it.
Have you posted previously about it?

That shudder when braking on mine though really ch1ts me off.....

I have a '10 Road King FLHR that does it intermittently. Comes and goes real quick on the deceleration. Had it in for the 5,000 mile service, they test rode it and of course, it did not vibrate.

So whatever it is - it's still there.

Well I hate it for all of us that have this problem, seems to be in the redisign of the new frame, I don't use alot of rear brake but use more two up, like I said they installed a new rotor and it helped some, does it worse at slow speeds, I guess like most things when you make one thing better you make something else worse, all I know was my 06 bike never did this and I put almost 40,000 miles on it, I guess if enough customers complain they will do something in a couple of years.

"does it worse at slow speeds"--it must be a bit all over the place as mine is worse at just around 60/55 down to 50/45 mph then more or less goes away.
I think your comment on the frame hit it on the head and some will and some won't (as stewy1200c notes).

I find it annoying more than anything. I can modify the way I use the brakes to make it virtually disappear bit I think this should have been "engineered out" before release...
