First, You can find sports related ribbon at your local crafts store. I have seen ribbon with softballs, basketballs and footballs.
This ribbon would look nice tied in a big bow on the handle of the basket.
To make this as cost free as possible you can find small sports related pictures in magazines and cut these images out and adhere them to poster board or even thin card board. Pierce a small hole in the top of you image and tie these all over your basket.
You can even use words that are sports related. Your local newspaper has a sports section you can cut these words from.
