Any more rubbish movies like Plan Nine From Outer Space?

I've never understood the Plan 9 From Outer Space snobbery. Technically, the film is actually OK - clearly lensed camerwork, adequate editing and sound. The 'incompetence' is all 'in camera' - acting, costumes, set decoration, special effects and so on. The proof of the pudding is in the eating - and for the story it sets out to tell, it does so with economic efficiency and narrative punch. If you can look beyond our superficial conceits of the 'imagery' as it meets our eyes, I actually think it's a pretty decent film.

I agree with this comment.

Whilst P9FOS is technically awful it does have redeeming qualities. I bought the film on VHS a few years ago and admittedly it was pretty bad but not as awful as thought it was going to be. I'm pretty sure there's far worse films out there, in fact I know there are far worse films out there.

'My Uncle The Alien' is still my best buy for 99p from Sainsburys in mine and my frienRAB' 'The Shittest DVD You Can Find' competition. It's bloody awful!

Frankenstein Conquers the World

Journey to the 7th. Planet

Journey to the Centre of Time

Navy vs. the Night Monsters

Rawhead Rex

World Without End

Target Earth

UFO: Target Earth (even worse than the one above)

Beyond the Time Barrier

The Land Unknown

The Golden Turkey AwarRAB book ranked P9FOS as the worst film ever made, based on suggestions and votes of readers of the author's previous book (can't remember what it was called), but since Plan 9 was more-or-less an amateur affair it's criticised rather unfairly I reckon. The film that was voted second worst of all time in the same book was Exorcist II The Heretic, and I think they had a valid point there - big studio, big name director, etc. It is absurdly and very enjoyably BAD. Your enjoyment of it will be enhanced by reading this analysis first!

On reflection, maybe it's wrong of me to question and deprive P9FOS of it's 'Worst Film ever Made' status - it is a genuinely bad film but it does merit it's notoriety for another reason.

Those fun seekers tired of the Hollywood dross looking for the ultimate bad film will find great comfort when discovering the work of Ed Wood jnr (possibly the first port of call for many due to it's notoriety).
Like what has been said in a previous posts, P9FOS does have redeeming qualities, if nothing more than mere entertainment value.

It would be a shame if it lost it's position and became just another bad movie because it is far from your average bog standard B-movie.
And when entering the depths of trash films it's always good to start off with something that is at least watchable, for which P9FOS is.

Thanks for your post Thinboy regarding E2. I haven't seen that film in a long, long time and from what I recall it is indeed a terrible film, I started reading the 'thesis' :p you posted and I'll have a go at tracking down this awful film myself (I presume it's in the Exorcist boxset?).

Here's a few links to The Incredibly Strange Film Show, ft a very young Jonathan Ross. This is the show that got me into bad films, there's plenty more on youtube - enjoy.:D

The Hideous Sun Demon is a great title but it's so bad it's funny - the whole thing is on YouTube:

The Giant Claw is also on YouTube in 8 parts:

I beg to differ regarding The She Creature - it's a good film! With special effects by Stan Winston. - Also on YouTube in 9 parts:

There's also a fantastically bad one called It Conquered the World which, as far as I can make out, features what looks like a giant vegetable with lobster claws that comes from Venus (but on the plus side, the heroine is a nice blonde in a tight white jersey).
