Can i sue an ex-roommate for not respecting any of my privilidges in an appartment that we were both on a lease, the lease was for 12 months, but i was added to it on the third month. i moved out after a little over my second month of living there, because she completely took over the whole appartment but still wanted me to pay half of the rent, she would do everything possible to make me miserable everyday, i had to sleep on the floor in a small space between her couch and a chair that she refused to move, in fact after i moved in she refused to make any space on the closet for me, even though she had a much larger one all for herself and was also using more than half on the one that was supposed to be for me, she would get mad if i used the stove, if dropped something on the carpet no matter how tiny it was, everytime i had to open "my closet" she would ask "what are you doing?" every movement i would make she would question me about it... anyway, i talked to her about me moving out for not respecting my privilidges at all, even though i was paying half of the rent of "our" appartment not just hers , she didn't agreed about me moving out and had the guts to tell me that she would sue me if i didn't pay the rent for the rest of the lease, but i moved out anyway because my living situation there was making me both mentally and physically sick, sleep deprivation, sitting and sleeping on the floor was hurting my body, and her everyday screamings were driving me crazy
.
So, i moved out, and then she moves out the next month, she managed to convinced the people at the lease office to let her and me out of the lease, which was good, but the thing is that when i first was added to the lease they asked me for a deposit of $1,100 because i had no credit at all, so i payed it, her credit was run too but unlike me she did have a credit so she didn't have to pay anything.. the people at the office told me my deposit is still there and that all i have to do is ask her to sign the check so i can cash my deposit (because we both signed the lease) even though its all my money and our credits were run separately, still they need both of our signatures.. but there's no way she is going to sign that check, and that really sucks for me, i know it wasn't very smart of me for signing that lease with her in the first place all i wanted was to help a friend who turned to be a monster, i would like to know if i can sue her? for my deposit and maybe for the rents i payed ..?
Thanks in advance.
