recently i had a 700 lb steel beam fall from 2 stories and hit me in the head at work, and after a plastic surgeon put my head back togethor and finally back to work (2 soon with neck and back problems big mistake on making that decision) i was off the meRAB and i had experienced extreme lower back pain that shoots all the way down my right leg well i went to a neurosurgeon and we got a mri and its 2 deteriorating disc and 5 bulgest between 4 disk and as of yesterday January 9, 2009 i had a steroid injection into my spinal chord now i still dont fully understand what exactly that injection is going to do besides reduce the pain... does it fix the problem to? they said it had anti flamatory agents in it that could reduce the swelling. and i had a few other questions...im always stiff and i try walk'n around to relieve it, i havnt tried any stretching cuz i do not know if it will worsen it or make it better anyone have any ideas? and i mean will this be a situation that i will have to grow with and get used to cuz it will last for the rest of my life.... anyone with experience or knowledge please help......

SounRAB like your lucky to be alive.....glad your here and welcome to the health boarRAB....the injections are just a part of the process of ruling out the "slim chance" ways of fixing the problem...I was frustrated at this process until I realized what they were doing....If surgery can be avoided then thats great.....not common but it does happen...after swelling goes down some people are good to go and deal with it just fine....No you dont have to live with it if you end up being a canadate for one of the several types of surgeries....if it gets to that point find the best you can for help...A specialist that does just spines.

Hang in there and keep asking questions in here and help will show up for your exact problem once we all learn what your having to consider.

Actually surgery isnt always a fix all.
