Any house tests for allergens?

Hi,

Ive never really had allergy problems before until recently. I just moved into a home about a month and a half ago. Over the past few weeks, usually when laying down in bed but not always limited to that, ive had moments of nose irritations, stuffiness, sneezing, itchy/irritated eyes. I have no idea what is causing it. I dont think its the a/c because this happens even with out the central a/c running, plus ive changed out the filters

Are there any reliable tests that can be done in the home to see what is in the air that may be causing this? I guess obviously I must be allergic to something but I have no idea, because at 31 ive never really had allergy problems before in my life. So not knowing what I may be allergic to, is not helping me pin point the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

SounRAB like dust mites. And don't bother to test for them - every place has them. You could bag your mattress and pillows, wash linens in hot water at least every week, remove carpeting and vacuum daily.

Try a zyrtec a day...or if it usually just happens at night in bed, maybe a benedryl at bedtime (it's only a 4 hour med and makes you drowzy).

Thanks for the response. I dont doubt what you say but why all of a sudden? If dust mites are pretty much everywhere, and ive never had these problems before, why would it bother me suddenly?

Its getting to the point where I feel it sometimes half the day the next day while Im at work. Its noon time now, and I left my house at 730 this morning and my nose is still irritated.

There is no "why"...it just happens that one day your immune system decides to go haywire. Honest, people who have never had allergies before can develop them any time. And they change over the years...one time you may be allergic to a certain allergen and then years later, not. If they knew the answers to all this we'd have a cure.

And this year has been particularly difficult with the strange weather.

Well, I just find it highly convenient that it chose to start a couple weeks after I moved into the home.

Id still like to test the house just in case its something else. But I might see how I go about testing what im allergic to.

There are environmental testing companies who can do that. It's rather pricey but you should be able to find someone in your local yellow pages.
