i know i am on the ExpressVu forum but could you guys tell me why should I get Bell over Shaw as my HDTV source? i am currently with Shaw but only as a full cable subscriber.

The "extra outlets fee" often doesn't apply with Rogers -- for example, HD VIP at $67.93 for 225 channels, 16 in HD, and an HD receiver. You can use three other cable outlets as is for analog and get all analog channels; or hook up additional digital boxes to get SD or HD or PVR as appropriate with the full 225 channel line-up.

It sounds like you want the most basic SD channel selection + HD service. Keep in mind that some Bell HD channels are tied to subscriptions to their SD counterpart. So to watch TSN and Sportsnet in HD you'll need to subscribe to Sports 1 Theme Pack at an additional $8/mth. There are other options, of course.

so ARR, are with Shaw HD?

Then I guess that answers my decision to go Shaw as I don't want to run another wires around the house.

I worked in Shaw Digital Cable engineering for 8+ years.
I was on loan to Starchoice and spec'd and managed their HD & DVR Development.
I build and maintain headend class commercial sites using ExpressVu signals and equipment as a private consultant.

I have 5 PVR's, 3 HD, 9 dishes and 2 dozen + STB's of all makes and providers for research and development.

I study and research signal piracy.

But I'm still learning. :)

BTW, I prefer satellite over cable, it just seems much cooler and techie!
But it's not for everybody.

so with Shaw HD-PVR, i don't have to do anything with my existing cable set-up? just buy the Shaw PVR and hook it up to the walls cable outlet? how does the 2 tuner work with Shaw with 1 cable outlet? sorry for the newbie questions.

You don't have to do anything, there is only 1 connector on the back of the cable PVR.
It works because it can be split internally.
All signals appear on 1 coax all the time, so a split just gives you 2 copies of the same set of signals.

In the satellite world, generally splitters don't work because a receiver either needs to send a tone of some sort and/or change the voltage to select an additional 'bank' of channels.
So an additional tuner or 2nd receiver would create a conflict when it tries to tune something not already on the line.

This is over simplified, but demonstrates why.

Off course there are exceptions, but that is an advanced discussion.

Yes JJJAY, if you return you rented unit (even the second one) there wbe a penalty even if you keep the rest of the account active
