i have a 1991 chevy corsica 3.1. the check engine light doesnt come on but when im driving and sometimes when the cars been driving for a while or when it gets hot the car will shut off, and it will always start right back up and drive but sometimes it wont let me shift it into drive right away and other times it will. the only light that ever comes on is the battery charging light. any ideas whats causing this?

Check for a vacuum leak. Which means the thin vacuum hoses on the engine . One or two may be cracked or split at the ends (where it slides over a male end connection) If you pull the hose off and squeeze the end of the hose in between your fingers it should be pliable like the rest of the rubber hose. If it is hard it is probably not fitting as tight as it could be. Just cut off 3/4" of the end or so and you have fresh rubber to reconnect to its connector. Check all the hoses and watch out for cracks or melts along the length of the hose (because it was near the hot exhaust manifold). Check them all.

The battery charging light is normal to come on with the key in the on position and the engine not running.

Firestone. Their prices are cheap and you can almost always find coupons to save you even more!
