Can anyone reccomend any good Brit flicks. I recently watched London to Brighton and I loved Lock Stock, Snatch, Pink Floyd's The Wall and Tommy. I also like Clockwork Orange, Trainspotting, Twin Town and Quadrophenia.

Going on those genres, can anyone reccomend and good Brit movies I might like? Been to the video library tonight and the only one I could find that looked good was Helen Mirran's The Queen and Hot Fuzz. As far as British movies goes your pretty much stuck unless you like rom-coms.

1. Shaun of the Dead
2. Shallow Grave
3. The Krays
4. Layer Cake
5. 28 days later

BTW - If you like Hot fuzz then Pegg and Frost in Spaced will be your thing as well.

The Third Man
Get Carter
Green for Danger
Dead of Night
Peeping Tom
Great Expectations
Kind Hearts and Coronets
The Ladykillers
A Canterbury Tale
Went the Day Well

There' s 10 classics to be going on with.
Of course what you have to bear in mind Equinoxe is that films were actually made prior to 1970, sometimes they were rather daringly filmed in black and white, and some of them don't feature Vinnie Jones.:)

Thanks guys, I have a few to be getting on with there. Watched Hot Fuzz last night but didn't find it as funny as I thought I would. The funniest bit was when they were jumping the fences and Frost just ran straigt through it. It was nice and light hearted and quite enjoyed it.

I'm more into your film 4 kind of stuff. The dark, hard htting, true to life gritty kind of film. I prefer a good Brit film for that reason. US films tend to be kind of unrealistic and OTT. I kind of like the fact that this country hasn't got an amazingly big film budget cos maybe if it did they would be making films more like Hollywood than Pinewood. Have to say I do like Pulp Fiction tho. Can't beat a bit of Quentin.

A friend of mine has just lent me a film called Scum with Ray Winston. I'm going to watch it tonight. I quite fancy that Gypo too.

Didn't like The Queen much, but enjoyed London to Brighton. Apart from that, no-one's mentioned Sexy Beast yet, which is a must-see as far as I'm concerned.

As for old stuff, yeah, The Third Man, obviously, and look at the work of director Michael Powell generally. My latest viewing project (y'know, the lovefilm.com list) is sixties British cinema so I'd like recommendations on that and I'll get back to you on what I think.

Also, some Mike Leigh - in particular Vera Drake and Topsy Turvy.

And Ken Loach, especially Raining Stones. Also, I just watched The Wind That Shakes The Barley. Now I don't know what exactly determines the 'nationality' of a film (actors, director, finance etc all play a part I imagine) and this probably qualifies as more of an Irish film. But recommended anyway.

Oh, and Brassed Off is one of my favourite British films ever.

I don't know if it qualifies as a Brit flick but I did enjoy 'The Business' starring Danny Dyer on Film 4 the other night. :)

Sexy Beast is quality.

What about Rita, Sue and Bob Too?
"Rita will you get ya head off me leg!" :D

Lots of war films :

The Dambusters
The Cruel Sea
Ice Cold In Alex
A Bridge Too Far
Battle Of The River Plate
Bridge On The River Kwai
The Battle Of Britain

Too add to 28 Days Later and Dog Soldiers, The Descent.
