I'm 19 but I might as well be 20 or 30 years older because all I listen to is classic rock. Now usually I don't mind all my favorite groups being long gone, but every once in a while (like today) I get really frustrated that there aren't any bands around today that I can really get into and enjoy. This isn't the first time I've felt likt this; this isn't even the first time I've come on YahooAnswers with this very same question. But I thought I might as well give it another shot.
Does anyone know any modern bands that I might like?
My favorite bands of all time are the Doors, the Beatles, CCR, Queen, and Pink Floyd. Once I came on YA asking for good modern psychedelic bands but I thought all the suggestions were too indie. I'm not into metal (at least not the metal of today) or what passes for punk these days.
My biggest gripe with music from the past 10 or 15 years is that it's too fast paced. Bands use drums and rhythm guitar way too much and it sounds like they're trying to keep the listener's attention. But when I came on YA asking for slower bands, all the suggestions were cheesy prog rock groups. I like some early progressive rock but not the stuff from the 80s that these bands seem to imitate.
The only band around today that I kind of like is the Black Keys. I love blues-rock but most blues rock acts of today totally f*ck up the genre (again, too fast-paced and too much drums and rhythm guitar), the Black Keys being the exception.
Anyway, I know I probably sound like a picky d0uchebag but those are my tastes. Thanks for reading this whole thing, and if anyone has ANYTHING they think I might like, please post it because it would be MUCH appreciated. But if not, that's fine, because I've grown used to it.
PS- If you're wondering why I'm posting this question now, it's because earlier today I was listening to "Band on the Run" (one of my favorite songs) and I realized how you'd never hear anything like that today, and it got me all depressed. And don't tell me about the Foo Fighters cover because it doesn't come close to the original.
