Madam without question anyone who gives an answer will in all probability THINK they are experts. I might be the first.
When you say acer that includes all trees in the maple species. Probably more specifically the one you refer to is the Japanese Maple which is far more delicate that the other maples.
Hopefully it just burned the leaves and didn't burn the buds.
If it were mine I would go ahead and plant it ASAP and use a rooting hormone to stimulate the root growth. If you get another frost or freeze make sure to cover it and when you do make sure the cover doesn't touch any of the branches of the tree. If you have some tall poles or bamboo poles make a tee pee form to protect it.
The general consensus is to wait and see. Make sure to prune off any dead branches.
Good Luck to you!

My Hubby bought me a beautiful Acer tree for our 33rd wedding anniversary. It was delivered last Monday, but we had a severe frost on Monday night, and the tree's leaves have shrivelled, and died. It looks a sorry sight. My Husband paid £70-00 for this tree, and we haven't even had a chance to plant it yet. Will it survive, and thrive again, or has it "had it"????
The tree's name is
Palmatum "Katsura"
