I'm in college, and my major is Nursing. I am clearing enough financial aid to cover tuition and books thankfully, but cost of living is another story. Studying in medicine full time and working has gotten incredibly difficult if not impossible; I mean in order to maintain an acceptable GPA. Even if I could easily manage it, my school schedule interferes with job possibilities. The people who will even see me all have the same thing to say: we're worried you won't be able to give us your all, and so we're probably not a good fit. You'd think the fact that I am studying nursing something in the medical would be ideal, but I'm finding I'm either not qualified enough or they won't hire me because they don't want to have to fill the position again when I earn my degree. The latter statement came directly from a recruiter in a hospital. I've downsized my expenses to the point that I've moved back in with my parents who are both disabled and not exactly financially able to carry me along. All I do is go to school and come home and study because it's just financially impractical to do anything else. My question is are there any programs or anything that could temporarily assist me while I'm in school so I can at least pull my own weight at home? I'm not wanting to hit European beaches or anything on breaks; I'd just like to not feel like a bum. I've searched and can't seem to find anything. I'm even open to help placing me with at least a part time job that is understanding of my school obligations. I've asked advisors at school and they say "sorry, can't help you." I need help and no one seems to want to give it. I'm open to anything, please!
