Any Film Noir fans here?

Not much pleases me more than unexpectedly coming across a great film such as those mentioned above, often on Channel 4, sometimes BBC2, in the middle of the night (or any time).

If Humphrey Bogart is in it, so much the better. My favourite American actor of all time.

Also, glad to see 'Brit Noir' getting a mention - 'Hell Is A City' is a hell of a film!

I watched a nice one on Sunday called 'Laura', starring a young Vincent Price and the absolutely stunning Gene Tierney. It was a good film - nicely paced and had a good cast. Would recommend

Gene Tierney is / was breathtakingly beautiful :)

Yeah, after enjoying Laura I bought Leave Her to Heaven and The Ghost and Mrs Muir and watched them both in one night! Gene was so stunning in Leave Her to Heaven ... I couldn't take my eyes off her. Great film too - I loved the score, the cinematography and Gene's performance as Ellen. Gonna check out Whirlpool next.

Funny you should mention Whirlpool, It was on Film4 not so long ago. I recorded it and I'll probably watch it this weekend sometime.

Night And The City is another gem of a noir that's worth seeing. Set in post-war London it stars Richard Widmark as a small time nightclub tout who tries to worm his way into a wrestling racket. Gene Tierney is in this one as well (Widmark's girlfriend) although the part she plays is quite small.

"Film an ordinary crime thriller using half the usual lights. You now have a film noir."

One of my old art tutors said that. Petulant sod, and wrong, but quite amusing.
