Any experiences with minimal invasive spinal fusion

Dear NYCGirl --

In the past 18 months, during extensive research on my condition (foraminal stenosis at L4-5 and L5-S1), I have read most all the links that appear on the Spine Universe and Back sites. With the exception of the docs at University of Wisconsin, who write the article promoting the Medtronic infuse and cage system, these is very little else on MISF.

However, there is a lot on MISS that does not involve fusion. I myself have been to Microspine for a decompression of my left L5 nerve root, and there are 6-7 docs in the US who do true MISS.

It is the fusion part of your query that has me interested and I wonder what, exactly, your doctors have in mind. I do not mean to be argumentative, merely curious and interested.

Did you watch the one where they go through the tube each side of the spine only leaving the 2" incisions? One each side then the rocker that only need a 1/2" cut both sides to finish the fission, There was not any graft taken from the hip either.

No I didnt see it.

My back looks like a road map now. They used surgical tape that I was allergic too and now have 4 long and wide lines on my back that is now going to scar along with the surgery scars... Geesssh

I just wish it was a month for me as I have a lot longer to wait. And this pain to put up with. It has effected my walking a lot as I now have a limp becauce the sciatica is more on my left side and people ask my what is wrong with my leg. I am laying down now as usual after I got a little sleep but also I was woken again as I just get to sleep and someone rings or something. Anyway good luck. Allan.
 
Having it done Tuesday, no cutting back muscles looks pretty impressive. Going home that day. Let you know how it goes.

Everything you have explained has been the same as what has been going on with me. I am lucky if I am able to get 3 hours of sleep a night. I usually have to fall asleep sitting up in order to get myself ready to sleep in the bed. Even at that it takes quite a while for me to get those few hours. Just like you I walk with a bad limp on the left side. If I could get rid of this limp and the pain down my left leg with this surgery I would consider that a success. The leg pain deff outweighs the back pain.
