any danger from metal splinter?

got a metal shaving splinter in my finger and cant get it out. is there any truth to the stories that metal splinters can traval to your heart and make a tiny hole and so on?? thanx.
 
Splinters rarely travel as they aren't big enough to. Now a whole toothpick that is swallowed...that is something else altogether. Chances are it will fester up with a small infection and get pushed out with the pus. Its how the body heals itself.
