I AM WANTING TO GROOMS DOGS. ANYBODY OUT THERE GOT ANY SUGGESTIONS ABOUT TOOLS. I WANT A GOOD PAIR OF CLIPPERS.
I HAVE PLAYED AROUND A LITTLE AND GROOMED MY DOGGY.I DID OK SO I HAVE BEEN TOLD. JUST THOUGHT I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO TRY IT WITH MY SISSY AND SON'S DOGGIES.MAYBE THEN GO ON OUT THERE AND DO OTHERS.... DO YOU KNOW A GOOD GROOMING SCHOOL ?

Depends on the dog and the clip. Oster, Whal.(there are others too) blades you need are 10,15,7F, 5, 5F, 4 ,4F. (the F indicated a finishing blade.) You will also need a few pair of scissors. (straight and curved ) in different sizes. along with brushes, combs. rakes, nail clippers. quickstop. Planning to take courses??? Or do an apprenticeship with a professional groomer?? You need to one of the two.

Oster was the clipper I always used but I did have a Andis clipper as back up if my had problems.

Search 'grooming supplies' & you will find lots of catalogs from different pet companies. There are quite a few to choose from but I would stick with what ever your instructor starts you out on.

Don't settle for the $30 $40 clippers they will not stand up using it on a dog. The blades cannot be changed but you have attachable combs but don't go this way. There is only one blade & you cannot change it out if it gets dull.

You will need several different blades, 5/8 for feet & around the eyes & near the ears, #10 or #9 for faces & tummy, #7, #4 & #5 for body work. You have to decide what length you want to leave the coat & buy a body blade to suit the length you wish the coat to be after clipping. I used a # 7 blade on most dogs so get a #7 for general purpose & a #10 or # 9 for close work.

Here is a list of sites that will help you see what you are to do. There are also instructions & catalogs & a list of schools.
