I want to hike across the Continental United states (All states except Alaska and Hawaii.) I would like to know If any of you have recommendations on what to take, people to talk to, etc.

fixed blade survival knife/ hatchet
M.R.E.s
sleeping bag
two layer coat
hiking boots
water bottle with filter
compass
satellite phone
backpack
First aid kit
take a class on wilderness survival
talk to United States forestry, Geological, Fish and Game, and police forces.
Anything else that might be helpful?
