Any adhesive experts in the house?

My Stomp Grip pads are great if anyone is considering them. They peel off a bit at the bottom where they curve around the bottom of my tank though, must be all the heat.

I'm wondering what I can use to adhere them to the tank better that won't be affected by the heat, but that also won't hurt the paint especially when I want to remove or replace them.

Any ideas?
 
for following up on this...yes, thoroughly clean.

Aside from the fact that I took off the Stomp pads for now at least...I determined that the adhesive just isn't that - for lack of a better word - permanent on these things. I used a hair dryer to take them off but I didn't need one...the adhesive is more like a jelly and all the time hot or cold.
 
Whats a "stomp grip" pad? I've never heard of it. Is that another term for tank pad? You know, the CF piece most guys put on their tank to protect from belt buckle scratches?
 
a huge pretty thick rubber decal with nubs all over it...like what snowboarders use when they unstrap one foot, it sticks to the board to provide traction. They make them for tanks so that you can hug and hang on better. I put them on thinking that they would help, but then took them off because not only are they ugly...I'm not sure if they help or hurt my cause. Want to get to know the bike and move around on it before I want to limit movement.
 
if you need something that can withstand higher temperatures, take a look at RTV sealants (room temp vulcanisation). General Electric makes these in varying applications from general purpose to aerospace. The come in a 2 part or 1 part. They have excellent temperature properties, the aerospace versions like RTV106 are good up to 500/600F while the general purpose versions are lower temp rated. They have a relatively lower shore factor which means they aren't hard like an epoxy resin.

MG chemicals has a selector guide and also a tech support line which may help you. I have no idea about application to a painted fuel tank or removal either unfortunately.
