Anxiety questions

I am a new meraber and have a lot of questions! I became a meraber only because of all the anxiety postings. I was formally diagnosed with Panic Disorder last week, and began therapy for it and for grief counseling. Now here come the questions, and if anyone knows anything about any of these topics, please respond! And thank you in advance!:)

Is there any correlation between panic and anxiety and smoking and or weight?

PTSD, what exactly is it, and could major loss (as in death of loved ones) cause PTSD?

What is the best medication for panic, what works the fastest and is most effective?

Is it normal to only have anxiety when alone or at night?

Can you have panic disorder and not depression, or do the two always go hand in hand?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Hi! I wanted to comment on your post because I've been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder since I was 16 and I'm 26 now. Its no fun at all.

I do believe that you can have anxiety with out depression because I don't feel depressed or have symptoms of depression. Sometimes I do get down about having anxiety, but I think that's normal.

I also think that PTSD can be caused from the loss of a loved one. Things affect people differently and events can hit you a lot harder than they would hit someone else just because its how you are. Anxiety can cause you to become more sensitive also.

As far as meRAB, taking meRAB is part of my anxiety so I tend to get just about every side effect in the book. I did find Zoloft to be the most helpful with the least side effects when I was on it. I kept having to up my dosage though because my body was getting used to it so then I went off it. Xanax is good for a quick fix when you need it right away.

Good luck and I hope you feel better.

Anxiety can get worse when alone or at night. Your mind will wonder and you get negative thoughts when alone. During the day your a little distracted but the anxiety is still there. I know for me that is when mine strikes especially early in the morning. I have to face another day which makes me anxiety ridden - I don't use medicine because I feel meditation, acupuncture, and guided imagery works for me the most. Just don't ever blame yourself because you feel this way - take this time to heal and know your not the only one. Everyone goes through some type of problem, loss, or stress in life. It will take time but each day gets better.

I was diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder and a little depression when i was 17 years old. I am now 31 and have been on medication on and off. I have tried Zoloft, PRozac and Cyrabalta I have found that LExapro close to bed time works best for me. I currently had a series of events in my life that caused my anxiety to go out of control and I had to quit my job due to all of this. I am currently taking Wellbutrin 150 mg bid for the dperession which i have been on for 6 years or so, Lexapro 10 mg at bed time which i have been on for 6 yeras and just started Ativan .5 mg bid yesterday. Hoping not to have to take the Ativan for 2 lont. The Anxiety was making me physically sick

God i am really sorry to hear about your situation. Hope your efforts help and you feel better soon. SounRAB like you have been through a lot. Just know that someone out there has you in his mind.

Thank you, that really means a lot :) I am finding this site really helpful. Maybe it just helps talking with people that understand because they have been there in one way or another.
