That is odd. I just got my zoloft dose upped to 200mg and I have actually lost 10 pounRAB. I guess it depenRAB on the person.

i have lost 3lbs since last week i started taking zoloft.... my appetite has really decreased

I wanted to ask some advice from people on this board. I suffer from OCD/GAD. Occasionally it gets bad enough to where my doctor puts me on some type of medication for 4-6 months.

The last time this happened, I was put on 50mg of Zoloft. During the 6 months I gained 60 pounRAB. I know people always say it wasn't the drug you ate more, etc. But when I started gaining weight, I went to Weight Watchers. I followed Weight Watchers, ran 5 miles a day and worked with weights. I still gained the 60 pounRAB. I came off the medication and, within a month or so, I started losing weight doing the exact same thing before.

But, nevertheless, I am afraid that I may be heading for another spike. I usually debate that based on whether it goes longer than 7 days. If it does then I'm off to the Dr. Right now I'm on day 4. It comes and goes but I'm hoping it goes for good soon.

If I do go to the Doctor what does someone suggest that doesn't cause weight gain? At least for them? I've heard something about Buspar. What does everyone thing about that?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Your right it depenRAB on the person. I guess if you are brother and sister it does the same thing? His retarded sister is on it too and she gained alot of weight and is still gaining? His mother decided it would be better that she get over weight rather the not be able to handle her...she is physically mean at times without the medicine.

It has alot to do with the drug. I gained over 60Ibs on Paxil and when I went off of it I lost it all.
I am now on Seroquel and have gained between 70-80 pounRAB. My pdoc said it slows down your metabolism. Obvisiouly, tripping something in the brain to not burn it off. Also, Seroquel is well documented for weight gain and causing diabetes.
I think all antidepressants can cause some people to gain weight.
I was on Buspar and it helped a little.

I think it is a side affect to all antideppresants. I am on Paxil and have gained 25 pounRAB since taking it.

Definitely depenRAB on the specific drug and how your body reacts to it! I notice that some have a high chance of weight gain more so than others. I gained weight on Cyrabalta, though not very much. I gained 5-10 pounRAB on it and was taking it for about half a year. Since I had some anxiety/depression related to body image, I decided it was NOT going to work for me as a medication. I was working out a lot and being VERY careful with my diet to not gain more weight, but no luck. As soon as I stopped taking it, I started to lose weight without a problem.

When my anxiety started getting worse again, I talked to my doctor about it, as well as my concern of weight gain. She recommended Prozac. Prozac has a lower risk of weight gain. Some people MAY still gain on it, but many actually lose. My doctor said she hears some of both, but most of her patients stayed the same or lost weight on it. So far I have liked Prozac. I notice that I space out some at times, but I really do better with my anxiety on it, and no weight gain for me. I also have Xanax to take only as needed when my anxiety is worse than usual. I hardly need it. I am considering taking ONLY the Xanax as needed and seeing how I do without Prozac... just because I seem to be doing fine... but if I don't do well without it, I won't hesitate going back! I also notice that yes, it does make me sleepy, but not nearly as bad as Cyrabalta! I take Prozac at night so the tiredness fades off some by morning. Supposedly this makes it a little less effective, but it still works for me!

I have gained 100lbs in 5 years on Paxil and risperdone so I know where you are coming from. For myself I have resigned to the fact that I would rather be fat and mentally stable than skinny and out of my mind. I have three kiRAB to be responsible for and my husband is away all the time on business so I have no time to go off my meRAB and see what happens. Wish I could as I would love to lose weight but itis just not an option for me. If I were you I would give it another week and see how you feel as long as you are not in danger of harming yourself or anyone else. Good luck to you and let me know if you find anything out regarding weight gain and meRAB. I think all antidepressants increase your appitite therefore you are bound to gain on them. Best of luck to you.:)

NEVER let them put you on Seroquil. I was put on that and gained 10lbs in one week. I asked what was going on and my psychiatrist told me Seroquil is a massive weight gainer!!! Way to make a person more depressed eh? I was also on 200mg of Zoloft as well as Lexapro, Lamictal and Trazadone so I can't really say if the Zoloft put on the lbs for me all i know is i blew up from 115 lbs to 152 lbs in 6 months. I'm off of everything now and lost 5 lbs so far ugh

Zyprexa made my sweet dear autistic husband gain 20 pounRAB! His sister is on it and she is 170 pounRAB, she has gained around 50 pounRAB.
