Hi, I recently went to the DR because I was feeling some tingling in my left arm and leg and even in to my face. I was adopted and have met my biological parents. My biological Mother was recently told she has Addison's. Having said that the DR thought I should have my throid checked. That came back fine. Then I asked her to check for Addison's. I don't have that, but my cortisol levels were off teh charts. Normal is like 3-13 (maybe as high as 23 in the morning), but at 4pm I was at a 42!!! Please tell me some one has the same experience and it was ONLY stress or anxiety....and if so, what did or could you do about it??? It's driving me crazy!

I would get a repeat of the test and keep in mind these tests are not super accurate and are probably not going to be used as a definitive diagnostic test...there is some leeway. Also, if you've never had it checked before, you may run a little high. Plus the fact that is was in the afternoon when cortisol levels are just dropping off. Hi cortisol isn't a good thing, but it can be dealt with. Over many years it can cause health issues, but you know it's running hi now...so get into some therapy and get that level down before permanent damage is done.

Thanks. Levels are supposed to be between 3-13 and mine were at 42. I had a 24 pee test done and have not received the results yet. I have had a lot going on such as my Mom passed away about 5 or so weeks ago....things are home are not 100%, work is fairly demanding etc. So I imagine it's mostly stress for me, but it does have me concerned. I hope my results come back good.

Did the Dr. check your cortisol levels with blood work or through your saliva?
I'm curious and wondering why Dr.'s don't automatically just do this test when they know their patients are suffering with an anxiety disorder.
To me, it would make sense.

Very interesting. I think I will ask for this test.

Thanks and good luck.
